season was a thoroughly enjoyable en-joyable affair Misses Emma McCornick Bertha Hempstead and Kate Lawrence the executive committee deserve great credit for their able generalship The other young ladies to whose untiring efforts ef-forts much of the success is due have earned a well done from all quarters The charity ball on Thursday evening was ono of the most enjoyable social features fea-tures of the season The concert was also entertaining The childrens contests yesterday afternoon drew alarge crowd of parents with their hopefuls all of whom seemed thoroughly happy The bicycle riding nnd the ball following were also enjoyable On the whole it was a great success and looking beyond the present pleasure to the occasion for it patrons of the Salmagundi Sal-magundi were inspired young people being present A charming childrens party was given at Fort Douglas Wednesday afternoon by Mrs Lieutenant Johnston in honor of the fourth birthday of her daughter Geneveive On Tuesday little Geneueive and her brother Fabian distributed their invitations invita-tions dainty little missives tied with I pink ribbon in person At 7 oclock Wednesday evening about ford little people gathered at Lieutenant Lieuten-ant Johnstons pleasant quarters The lieutenant entertained his charming and charmed audience for an hour and a half with magic lantern views The party then took the character of the ever popular popu-lar donkey party little Lelia Tyler 1 winning the prize The tables were dainty indeedlwith their decorations of pink A novel and pretty feature was the arrangement of the souvenirs They were tiny bonbons suspended sus-pended from the chandelier by pink ribbons rib-bons and lying beside each little guests plate The tiny hostess daintily attired in white with pink house-warming given by Bert Reading at the Readings new home in Ccnterville They left here on a special car joined to the regular 630 train Arriving at Cen terville they were met at the depot by two large hay racks filled with straw and quilts Into these the young people crowded and were driven to the Reading home They were given full sway of the watermelon and muskmelon patches and with dancing and cards spent a most delightful time until 12 oclock when an elegant ele-gant supper was served After two hours more ox music and games hot coffee and cakes were served and the guests departed on benevolent institutions of the city had sent reports of the number and kind of garments needed These reports were read and the Guild will be able to furnish a good proportion of necessary articles to each institution The garments gar-ments will be distributed next month The Guild is growing rapidly in number num-ber and in interest Many of the ladies reported having secured the names of ten new
