Show GENERAL. H ASIIIXGTOX. Af'raid ol Xildcti nui! Hendricks. Hend-ricks. Tlio Silver tu Circulation . Chicago, 13. Tribune's Washing ton: It is believed that tho great sensation of the next congress will not be an attack on President llayea by republicans, but a movement by the, domocruts to declare Tilden elected and take measures to socure his recognition. Republicans regard the speeches of Tilden and Hendricks as verv significant, as beine carefully prepared, after full and deliberate csnsultation with prominent democrats demo-crats from all parts of the country, each knowing what the other would say. Sagacious eastern republicans expresB the opinion that the democrats demo-crats are looking to an early control of the senate, as well as of the house, and that when they obtain this they will refuse further appropriations for President Hayes, and recognize recog-nize Tilden instead, only appropriating appro-priating upon his estimates. Some of the best known democratic follow-ors follow-ors of Tilden are confident of controlling con-trolling the senate at last by the middle of Hayes' term. House democrats are considering a plan to investigate ftll alleged bargains made by Foster, Matthews el al., for a continuance con-tinuance of the electoral courts. The commissicn appointed to investigate the subject having reported that at leaet $8,000,000 of fractional currency is destroyed, it is believed that the attorney general will decide that this amount of silver can be put out to tako its place. The $50,000,-000 $50,000,-000 of silver which the treasury was authorized to put in circulation has been paid out already, also nearly H,000,000 which has been issued over the amount allowed by law. This will probably have to bo do-ducted. |
