Show The Northwest Trading: Co.'s Bill in the Senate. Washtngton, April 5. In the Senate today," to-day," George reported , favorably from the Committee on Territories the bill to enable the Northwest Trading Company, a private corporation organized under the general laws of Oregon, to purchase certain lands in the Territory of Alaska. The committee, George said, recommended the indefinite postpostment of the bill. Dolph asked that the bill be placed on the calendar. He had expected, he said, that debate on the bill wonld bring up the whole question of the disposition of publio lands in Alaska, and he still thought that question important enough for Congress to look into and decide. He thought the committee had given the bill slight consideration. George said-the committee had given the bill enough consideration to conclude that it was a very important bill. At Dolph s request the bill was placed on the calendar. ; , Cameron offered a resolution, which was agreed to, appointing Sherman chairman of the committee. Stanford, a member of the Civil Servioe Committee, and Mitchell, of Oregon, a member of the committee on additional ad-ditional accommodation for the library. Piatt formally submitted a proposed amendment to the resolution heretofore introduced in-troduced by him in relation to executive execu-tive sessions. The amendment recites specifically the Senate rules affected af-fected by the resolution, and Piatt's object ob-ject being to avoid a point of order on his resolution, that it did not reoite the rules which it proposed to amend. The amendment lies over under this rule, Piatt saying he hoped to address the Senate on the subject matter of the resolution on Wednesday or Thursday next. |
