Show C(EUR D'ALEXE. A 3Ionster Water Finnic Being Built by a Syndicate. Dr. E. O. Smith, the well known Port-lander, Port-lander, has returned from a visit of several sev-eral months to Coeuf d'Alene. Mr. Smith was seen by a News reporter yesterday, and says he found a great improvement both in buildings and mines there. The output in bullion is about $50,000 a month at present, but this will be greatly increased when the bed rock flume which is being built by a syndicate of New York and Pennsylvania capitalists is completed. This syndicate represents $5,000,000 I of capital, and their ditch will cost I them over $1,000,000. It will be nine I miles in length, and will run from Hummel's Landing on the North Fork of the fknur d'Alene river to a point one mile above Murray City. It will bring water to hundreds of claims on both Pritchard and Eagle creeks. One hundred men are at work on the flume at present, and 200 more will be pnt on at the end of the present month. They are paid $3 per day. Besides these there are a large number working in the mines, and the Cceur d'Alene region is very lively. live-ly. Mr. Smith mentioned several claims that were doing well. The Golden Chest Company's ten-stamp mill is doing good work, and several other mills will soon be erected. New quartz discoveries are being constantly made, and taken altogether, alto-gether, the outlook for Cieur d'Alene was never so promising before. Portlaud News. |
