Show MAYOR ARMSTRONG IN THE TOILS. The Deputies Bald His Residence for evidence In a IT." C. Case. And now it is Mayor Armstrong who is brought into the toils. Yesterday Deputy Franks accompanied by Deputy Hurd visited Mr. Armstrong's residence in the Eleventh ward and asked for Mrs. Armstrong. Arm-strong. The young lady who answered the door, who since, by the way, proves to be Lizzie Siddoway, the supposed polygamous wife of the Mayor, informed the Deputy that the lady wanted was not in, and it was not known when she would be. Mr. Franks asked if any of the family were home, supposing that the person to whom he was speaking was the servant ser-vant girl. She brought a son , and daughter o fMr. Armstrong into the parlor, par-lor, and Deputy Franks subpoenaed all three of the parties. Perfect consterna- tiou succeeded this act of the officer, and while Miss Siddoway burst frantically into tears the youngsters bolted for the doors. Mr. Franks, however, proved equal to the emergency, and very soon accomplished his work, leaving the children to obey the subpeenaes. In the meantime Captain Greenman and others visited Mountain Dell, where Mr. Armstrong has considerable property, aud summoned quite a number of persons found on the premises. This morning the parties were all taken before the Grand Jury, and Mayor Armstrong Arm-strong himself was seen hanging around the hallwayleading to the jury-room. It is claimed that the officers are in possession posses-sion of very conclusive evidence of Armstrong's Arm-strong's guilt, and it is intimated that there may be established a graver case than unlawful cohabitation. The result of the Grand Jury's deliberations will be awaited with general interest. |
