Show Red and blue debate Taryn Koehler Contributing Writer Students and members had a chance last Wednesday to witness a a debate somewhat similar to the presidential debates that are seen on television The debate was held at atthe atthe atthe the Taylorsville Redwood Campus Student Event Center A moderator was even needed for this debate between the two candidates Peter Beinart a journalist and editor for forthe forthe forthe the liberal magazine The New Republic and Jonah Goldberg also a journalist and contributing editor for conservative magazine The National Review were the debaters Each had very strong views on how they felt about the presidential candidates and the issues each are trying to fix Every year they say this is the most important election and they are lying Goldberg said in his opening statement This got gota a lot of attention from the crowd I almost didn't make it tonight I was going to fly to Washington to fix the financial crisis Beinart said in a joke referring to John McCain This was not the only statement from the debaters that had the audience laughing Throughout the whole Q debate it seemed to be bemore bemore bemore more and more like the debates between Barack and John McCain Each were making jokes about the others other's statements and disagreeing on almost every issue One of the most debatable issues of the night was health care Give them healthcare Beinart said He believes everyone should be given healthcare and make it equally accessible for everyone in America which is in line with views vIews Goldberg agrees with McCain that if there is isa isa isa a universal health care system it would only make more problems for people and it will take more time for doctors to see their patients When it came to the questions from the audience some thought the answers from the debaters were not great They kind of addressed the topic at first and then sidetracked it to arguing about other topics than what the question was and it was forgotten student and debate attendee Chase Nelson saidA saidA said saia A government who tries to do everything cant can't do anything well Goldberg said in his final statement |
