V II Dear Editor 7 February 1987 There has be been n a p perpetual problem of getting people who are committed fl to serve erve serve in the Stud Student Senate In an an 1 effort to resolve th s the Senate has p passed sed bills amending the SL constitution and bylaws allowing to for a committee to appoint future senators The reasoning being that if people are interviewed w before being appointed those wanting to serve on an impulse will be be weeded out Only those thos who are truly committed will become senators I disagree with this solution To me this is taking power from the people and giving it to a few This will give the few power to appoint even more of their friends to power Also I dont don't think that interviews will necessarily lead to committed people For one had there was the interview with the personnel department then orientation and a few words with Security After two days I left that janitorial job for one in computers When this issue is presented to the in jn a constitutional election I urge all to vote against it r J I Sincerely Alma Smi Smith th |
