J Smith Provo Dear J J. Smith In doing research to answer your letter I found several interesting facts as to why does not have an advanced athletics program One reason is the students themselves voted against it This was a vote taken several years ago In order to fund a more advanced program would mean a substantial raise in tuition those people who were not interested in sports did not feel they should pay a higher tuition for something they would not participate in Another major factor is that the powers which control our BIG spending money are also against it These are the Board of Regents the Board of Education and the legislature Their reasoning behind this is that there are so many colleges nearby that do have advanced athletics programs should be more programmed towards student job preparation Then students have havethe havethe havethe the option of 0 going to a college based on giving him good job preparation or going to a school that offers ers a bigger range rang of social activities Another reason is as yet does not have the facilities for such programs Personally I 1 would like to see a better sports program at but the present facts state that a bigger majority would not wishes you continued success in basketball Chele Johnson Editor Points West |
