V DA DAY Y CARE FINALLY Several months ago a survey was conducted and a proposal made to establish a aDay aDay aDay Day Care Center on the main ca campus cam lus us o of Utah Te Technical al al' al College a at t Salt Lake At that time several locations locations locations loca loca- were suggested in which to house the Day Care Center The College Center the Jay L. L Nelson Administration Building and the Maintenance ance House on the north end of the campus facing Redwood Redwood Redwood Red Red- wood Road were proposed as possible loca locations Day Care Center services will begin on the first day of fall quarter The Day Care Center will be located in the basement of the Construction Trades Building Maximum occupancy in this location is expected to be 90 children However it is not expected that tha t this many children will receive services during fall quarter Several alterations have been made ade to the existing facilities ties in order to comply I with state regulations regarding regarding regarding regard regard- ing Pay Day Care The hallway leading to the exit on the eastside eastside east east- side of the building has been blocked off with an approved fire firewall wall as it enters the mainhall main hall hall This will allow a separation of the Day Care participants from the general population of the campus This separation was a matter of concern among students during the initial planning stages The entire northeast corner of the building grounds will be fenc fenced off to provide a play area for the children The corner of the parking lot nearest the the Day DayCare DayCare DayCare Care Center will be j ed as a off drop-off and pick up point for participants in the program The existing restrooms willbe will willbe willbe be utilized by the Day Care Center One of the existing restrooms will be used for Staff purposes and an is isolar isola- la ti thin n area The other will be used for the children Risers will be ins installed taIled in the childrens children's restroom in order to compensate for the size of the children in relationship to the existing facilities Mary Lou Cowgill has been hired to direct the center Applications are now being accepted for Teacher and Teachers Teacher's Aide positions In addition to these staff members members members mem mem- bers Mrs Cowgill hopes to obtain several students through the work study program program program pro- pro gram on campus The cost of tuition will be per day or per month in line with the st states state's tes te's guidelines f for r day care It has been suggested that the parents of t the e participants be allowed to volunteer their services as assistant instructors in return for lor services at the Day Care Center This suggestion could prove beneficial to all parties involved Meals will be provided by bythe bythe bythe the Food Services Division of the College Center Jim Gardner Gardne will be in charge of preparation tion and he has arranged arranged arranged ar ar- ar- ar ranged for the use of a cart similar to those used in hospitals to transport the food to the Day Car Center Meals will be served family style inthe in inthe inthe the Day Care Center Anyone wishing to make inquiries regarding Day Care I should contact Mary Lou Cowgill in th the Administration Building t r o I 7 r 0 t |
