d their officers therein herein I feel that tha t the idea of alternate sources for students to compete in sports is a great idea I dOnot do not believe that this idea be used to benefit one person As I have witnessed this officer s stops ops at t nothing for this team to win I know that in the recent past he has used devious devious' tactics to bring the team into a better position position tion to win and at th that t. t same time he has lied Ji d to the opposing teams teams- his sponsor or which by the way is Kitchen Restaurants it is not is used only when only when it is to th the advantage of that tha t person and the Kitchen Restaurant Restaurant Restaurant rant team As the Sports Club present- present exists I feel that it has been 11 d lJ d lil Uj aged as far as getting the greatest amount of benefits to the greatest gr number of stu stu- stu- stu dents Those students currently currently currently cur cur- enrolled in Sports Club of which there are few are being mismanaged misrepresented misrepresented misrepresented presented and manipulated for the benefit of the current officer Some of the members have been due to the actions and image projected projected pro pro- jetted through the activities and procedures used by the officer Its It's creating a bad image for the school Other teams have mentioned and complained complained com corn of the childish actions and the anything is fair to win attitude used by the officer I feel to make this a better situation all Sports Club activities should be more wid widely ly publicized The Tp officers officers officers cers should be elected not appointed All meetings should be regular and public publicly ly known More opp opportunities f for r women should be open There should be bea a greater number number- of people ma made aware that there is a Sports Club so that new new officers can be elected in ina a more ben beneficial beneficial benefi benefi- fi- fi cial manner for the students and the school I have a lot of gripes concerning this club that I don't dont feel would be appropriate ate to mention at this time I I- know there are a lot of problems and most stem f from om that one certain officer Name withheld upon upon request A I t r to The Editor Points West Some Someone tells me that you are producing an issue of Points West for the summer quarter GREAT You ought to have at least one letter from your constituency so here is one concerning events which have haye been transpiring for two years now of which some of the student body might take interest During the Spring quarter of 1978 a certain individual from the west mid-west area approached a few of us inquiring into our willingness to put a slow pitch softball tea team together We sort of combined two intramural teams team no 9 and to form our own team We Wethen Wethen Wethen then entered the Sandy softball softball softball soft- soft ball league under the name of Sports Club and played a aW W Q i in 78 but then some interesting events events' oc The acting coach at this point began to show us exactly why he wanted to start up upa a team anyway We had a small awards type get together to end the season and he gave himself yes I said himself no less than 2 awards One was for earning the best bes t ba batting average which he may have actually done although he keeps the stats stars The other way a plaque no less which had the following inscribed upon it and I quote This is to prove that even nice guys finish first Now bei being g the mellowed- mellowed out loose type bunch we were we kinda got a kick outa all this rather than realize the prima donna that tha was emerging on the horizon Over the next off season period of time this coach type decided that the team was his and he could then proceed todo to todo todo do with it whatever he saw fit One other piece of relevant info This coach also converted converted converted con to a certain prevalent religion in the he area and started spending a lot of time ime in a ce certain tain building way out outon outon outon on the west end of campus You know the one no one in his right rig mind w would uld enter Anyway y upon this seeing- seeing the of-the-light trip he all of a sudden had 10 or more people from this building who expressed an interest in joining our team None of the existing players seemed to x f 0 mind but of course we didn't realize what was in store for us We didn't realize that that- how w we felt about the trip God trip l-trip would determine whether or not we played at all let alone l let t. t alone start anymore He now decided that h he would single handedly run n the mound and his new bosom buddy could handle home plate The only interesting point about this is that any competent team wouldn't even have them on the roster for up back-up let alone start The team is shuffled around so much now that no one one knows from one week to the next what position they willbe will willbe willbe be playing if in fact they play playa a at all tall So this summer we entered a tournament that had we won we were eligible to play in the nationals in California you know the real world During the course of the Ahe o Action action- 1 this one-man one school club belly bellyached ached and complained complained complained com com- and bitched at the officials so much that tha t they asked him to remove himself and his team and if they were never to hear from him again it would be too soon Can you imagine how we as asa asa asa a team felt The embarras- embarras ment was ove overwhelming helming And Andon on top of all that he left the starter type material on the bench and hopelessly bungled away what chances we might ha have ve had Some representation tion of huh This This' jerk calls this the Sports Club but its it's his club and his wife-type wife catcher buddys ego filler and they are very skillfully y using Utah Technical College for this purpose Now I ask where is the organization during all of this The College Center Director even appropriated monies to this person before he even registered himself as asa asa asa a club Just a little bit of irregularity or at l least st that's how it would s seem em to one who has been a member and former officer of 78 77 and one who knows the procedures Also worth noting O Of twenty twenty ty or I so of the original members on the team of 78 two thirds or more have quit quitt out t of and disgust over ver his use of blatant dishonesty to achieve his goals whatever and arid the hell they are He tells our pur sponsor one thing the officials an- an r. r f I q t. t 1 other and we the team something some som something some some- thing totally different Well a few of us have had enough So I was as asked to collect our thoughts f for r publication publication cation so this is the attempt We feel eel that when that when someone is using the name of Utah Technical College of Salt lake laketha that tha t they sho should ld be properly authorized and nd more important import import- ant they should be regulated In a school l sports organization tion religion politics or and his life style should carry no influence So lets let's change this lest Zionism wins out again ra Cheers Y UP Publications Hons 78 1977 and a few concerned students P PS S Upon the tragic death of a friend Dave Malkemus the th team Wish wishes s to express its sorrow and sympathy to his immediate te family and say that th t we miss mis and am t wUll k remember friend IV r Letter to Editor by Wayne Gulbrandsen Heres Here's an interesting note to the students of this college Vice President of Instruction Jim Schnell has stated to this reporter that tha t tone one of the administrations re reasons sons for the elimination of the General Education tion Department Department Department De De- De- De is because the majority of the students in inthis inthis inthis this institution are at a concrete learning level Its It's his belief that the students are not intelligent enough to select their own elective courses in General Ed EdI I dont don't know where the administration administration tion gets its information from but I can cant can't t believe that f fact ct represents th the thema majority majority majority ma of the students Theres There's a certain English Comp Compo teacher whose job has been threatened if he con continues contin contin- tin ues in his efforts to re- re reestablish reestablish re stab stab- lish Ush intercollegiate sports ports within After writing a aletter letter to President Cowgill concerning this matter this teacher was warned by one of the Presidents President's underlings gs that he could look for fora a new job if he continued to persist in his efforts to change the administrations administration's po policy icy concerning intercollegiate fn te sports It is abo about t time that we as students voted on this mat ter Our voice has a say in administration policies and andas andas as long as our voice remains remains' t J o F FoR R J silent we will b be left eft out of the decisions that affect our lives The administration claims lack of funds as their reason reason for eliminating intercollegiate ate sports but after my meeting with Vice of Finance Burt Burt Talridge on on Friday May 18 1979 his reason was was' slightly diff different He told me that the reason there are no funds for for intercollegiate sports is be because because cause the administration has has' never asked for them And speaking peaking of of money money G General I eral Cowgill Cowgill's s house which is being constructed bythe bythe by the tradesmen of ands andis and andis is s being fin financed by college funds is reported to have a a. a selling value of 3 No person in the administration is willing to say where the money came from to build this castle castl so I assume that stud student rit funds have gone into it When I Inv Fm m r sure n will have no objections to an open house hous party so o that the students can see w where her at least some of their money goes God knows it doesn't go for education So get the beer and dope together and Ill I'll let you know when the he p party will be More stuff if and when the next paper happens Capt Sandbar j If you If-you you rode up to this school on a Harley Davidson Dav where would you park it In Ina Ina a parking stall where could it-could it could be easily I run over ov-er over or in an r l' way the the out space where itcan it itcan can be stolen in less than 15 seconds The fact that I am trying to point out is there is no where to park any type of motorcycle that is safe andou and ou out oth of the way I think more more students would ride their motorcycles if there were were a safer place to park It costs me about 4 times as much in gas to drive my truck as asit it does my bike t to school If this school was energy minded minded minded mind mind- ed they would supply adequate adequate adequate ade ade- quate parking space for more people that that have have to drive long distances to school People would bring their bik bikes s more often if they didn't have to worry about s somebody some somebody some some- me- me body playing with it or just stealing tealing it I J think our stu student body should confront Joe Johnson with this problem Roger punchy Davise Davis Davis' e r j A c I of
