Show September 29, 1941. SOUTH HIGH SCRIBE Page Three Freshmen Talented Accomplished adolescent artists from the various junior high schools are making debuts at South high this year. Two of our most clever artists are Ilauna Olson, and Milton Hol-stei- n, who have some very intri-cate tap routines. One of Utah's foremost acrobat and adagio dancers is Miss Bar-bara Morrison. Other outstanding vocal artists are: Helen Peterson, Dolly Sim-per, Lois Hash and Doris Warner. Ida Lee Pensen. of Lincoln high school is noted for her fine ability as an accordian player. Among the talented students from Irving are Jimmy Neeley, pianist, and Harvey Wallin, reader. Faculty Throw Neat Brawl A faculty party, designed to acquaint the "Old Timers" of South high with the new faculty was held at the Boy Scout Wig-wam, September 8. Immediately after school, they departed for the canyon and participated in outdoor games un-til the dinner bell sounded. The feminine guests then forgot all about their figures, thanks to Miss Rees, who was in charge of the dinner, and began to busy them-selves with the food set before them. That evening they enjoyed themselves playing indoor games. A skit was presented by the new faculty, the supervisors, and the principals. Hill CLUB NOMINATES SPANISH OFFICERS Spanish club held its second meeting, a get acquainted pnrty, to get new members and nominate candidates for offices of the club last Tuesday. Permanent officers will be elected tomorrow. The club will be conducted in English instead of Spanish, in order that the students who have not stud-ied the language may learn it. More time will be spent in learn-ing the customs and folklore of the people. Definite plans as to the future policies have been de-cided. The entire membership will be divided into groups to serve on certain special committees. Anyone wishing to attend the club may contact Mrs. F. Hick-man, the sponsor of the club, or Miss B. Noble. A teacher of long diversive train-ing is Mr. Willardsen, who is now teaching his favorite subject, mu-sic. Rumor is that he is very well liked here, as are all the new-come- rs to our faculty. "Besides having the most beauti-ful and the best equipped library in the city, South high school has students with the best attitudes," so thinks Miss Edith Gates, direc-tor of studies. "Living at home is much better than staying at the Ben Lomond Hotel," so reports Miss Mary Jane Hair, who is happy to be living- - in Salt Lake after being debate coach at Weber high for one year. Another new teacher who is also interested in our speech depart-ment is Miss Harvey. When she isn't cheerfully helping her stu-dents, golf and reading take up most of her time. English 5 students will be privi-leged to have Miss Isabel Gagian, who lives in Murray, Utah. She is very fond of swimming and hik-ing. Another new member of our Commercial department is Miss Harding. For guaranteed results in type and shorthand, follow Miss Harding's expert teaching. Guess What?
