The Utah Housing Finance Agency (UHFA) announces an innovative program of broad assistance to help lower income families of rural Utah purchase their first home. Cash assistance being provided along with the significantly reduced interest rate will save the homebuyer tens of thousands of dollars of interest over the life of their mortgage loan. The new program targets the lower 25 of wage earners in rural Utah. The program, RURL, will offer the lower income household a broad array of help including: a. No down payment by buyer; b. Cash grants - no repayment required; homeowners c. a free warranty protection plan against needed repair or replacement of the major appliances and systems such as electrical, plumbing, etc. d. reduced loan fees and charges e. Access to low interest rate emergency home repair funds f. An interest rate on the mortgage as low as 5.75. The program will save the greatest amount of interest during the first five years of the loan when the interest gradually increases to 5.75 where it will remain fixed to 7.75 for the remainder of the 30 year life loan. The Utah Housing Finance Agency has set aside $24 million to fund the program. Rural areas of the state are eligible to apply. Last year we had bout 90,000 visitors. Ideally, the staff would like to greet each visitor individually and give them a tour of the rock art in the park and answer any questions they may have.
