Show v Republican Convention to Meet Here September 30 Salina will be the big convention! city Saturday, September 30, when.' the Republicans of the county will assemble here and name the conuty and legislative ticket for the coming November Salina High to Enter Strong Team In Football Ranks Dottle Flics t ,1 With a wang of calf hide on pig skin, forty-thre- e embryo footballers welcomed the birth of the great American Sport into the North Sevier Enthusiasm was in High. the girls wanted to do their share in tearing the little oval to pieces. It was only with effort , that they could be persuaded to let the boys do the breaking of necks, while they stood on the side lines and cracked their .Vocal cords. A week ago from the time that this little article feels the thickness, of pirnters ink, outlook for football this season in the Salina High was about as rosy as the cultivating of bannanas in Alaska. The students were wild to get the game started, and in the town people waned it yet the securing of money to buy eighteen suits was of the same type as Marconis attempt to talk with the people in the stars (this in a students view). a movement was started to get the backing and support of the town merchants. It was a great success ,so far seventeen merchants and others prominent in the business world of Salina have pledged individually eighteen dollars to buy one suit. Are the merchants back of football and the school? Do the 'students appreciate it? If in doubt ask any of the forty boys who every afternoon scramble and fight madly after a little piece of what once used to be a part of a pigsback, which now, however, is inflated with a little air and called a football. Coach Hansen faces an exceedingly totifeh proposition in putting a winning team in the field. While all then men are of good size only one or two have ever Been the game played. This does not deter their determination to show their division rivals that they can play the game, and play a game that will count in touchdowns. The boys are out to make up for what they lack in experience "by putting extra vinegar in their pep on the field. Monroe, tried and proven by several years of playing the game, will be North Seviers first opponent. This game will be played on the home town gridiron on Oct. 13. Whether the first meat will be raw or tender remains to be seen yet no matter the hardness of the first boiled egg, the infant will receive a baptism and hardening of the shell which will spell danger for the other teams during the remainder of the season. Practice so far has been limited to ' learning the art of snaring the elusive oval out of the ozone. Passing and receiving has been the rule of each afternoon, and-i- t would be a pep renewer for the most skeptical to take fifteen minutes from their duties as cook or barber or what not, and come down and watch your son or your neighbors son eat sod and work for a good cause, the cause of football. Football is here to stay, if you dont think so tell the first urchin it is too dangerous and see what hapsuper-abundanc- SI iii election. Throughout the county there are 124 delegates that will be present at the convention, and these, together with the candidates and visitors, it is predicted, will bring the number of visitors to more than 200. P. C. Scorup, Chairman of the Republican County Central Committee, suggested Salina as the convention city and the invitation was accepted without opposition. The convention will be held at the opera house and . ... open at 10 o deck in the morn- - Business er m Nothwithstanding the fact that Salina has been somewhat slow in perfecteing her fisK and game protective association, the spirit of dois predominating with ing things the sportsmen and through the ae 0 tivities of many of them some fingerling trout are to be planted in the streams adjacent to Salina. The first shipment, 50,000 came in and immediately were Monday transported to Loss Creek and Maple Grove, 25,000 going to each The transportation of the place. fish was done by several of the sportsmen of Salina. Yesterday another shipment arrived and were taken to Gooseberry. The shipments will continue regularly until the full consignment for this point has ben received. Further distributions will be made at Red Salina Creek and other Lake, streams whre the fish can grow to maturity or large enough to allow fishermen to take them. jThe fish are those raised at thhe Glenwood hatchery and those that have arrived thus far. are more than an inch in length and all are coming n fine shape. The organization which has been talked among the sportsmen for some time, will be effected some time soon. State Fish and Game Dave Madsen, Commissioner has been invited to attend the orgniza-tio- n and just as soon as the date can be arranged Mr. Madsen will come to Salina to assist in the work. Over in Colorado, according to vices received in Salina, there seems for to be a bunch of hard-knocke- rs the Pikes Peak highway. The latest reports coming from that section is to the effect that a man on the payroll for a certain town, is stationed at Rifile with instructions to route all country travel by the way of other than the Pikes Peak route, and that the latter was imThis is the first report of passable. , of the work were this season, signs put up early destroyed by some vandal. The booster for the Pikes Peal route says that he passed across the desert and met some forty cars that had paid little heed to the paid agent and stamped the report that the mad was bad as rotten propaganda. Another incident that shows that all is not right with some of the Coloradoans, is the fact that two cars, with their destination as Los Angeles, were hurrying to make the trip. These travelers were in Salina this week and related the incidents .that led them far from their route. At Rifle the easterners were advised to forget the Pikes Peak rout and go north. This they did and as a .result they were caused to make more than 200 miles unnecessarily. Their first route carried them through Salina canyon, but on advice of the trusty at Rifle they went north, being forced afterwards to come back to Salina. Some day the vocabulary of the paid instructor will be exhausted and somo day the travelers going from New York to the Pacific coast will learn that the Pikes Peak n highway is the best and most logical to travel. Never theless, there are hundreds passing through Salina each week and the first complaint of the roads through the canyon comes from some of the east from hard boiled knockers here. Ocean-to-Oce- I mg. Ocean-to-Oce- From all indications there is to be a warm fight for some of the offices. It is estimated that practically all;' of the present incumbents will seek renomination. Salina has not as yet come out strong for any offices, exthat of representative. cepting Friends of S. M. Jorgesnen, who has served faithfully, are working for the nomination of the Salina legislator and will endeavor to get his name before the convention when the delegates meet here. Mr. Jorgensen has hosts of friends and his record at the capitol city will no doubt carry him to success. A. J. Fillmore, present sheriff, and who was in this city this week, stated that he would seek the nominaSheriff Filltion for more, if reports are true, will have competition at the convention. Andrew Rasmussen, city marshall of Richfield, has tossed his hat in the ring and will ask for the office. George Peterson of Richfield, it is rumored, has been slated for the commissionership from the centei of the county. Peterson was appointed some 18 months ago to the For the office he now holds. commissioner, which come from the southern end of the county, three Monroe men have been mentioned Carl Tuft, John Webb and Luthei Wingate are the Monroeites that seek the office. William Parker of Joseph, is also named as a likely term com candidate for the missioner. Recorder, term. Sheriff, term. Assessor, term. Attorney, teivn. Surveyor, Inasmuch as many of the offices have been made for a trem of four years by the recent act of the state legilature there is every liklihood that contestants will be the more eager.
