They were in Gunnison to enjoy the elk hunt and also visiting overnight was Clyde Miller of Covington, California. Mr. Miller was a previous Bishop of the Olivers. Devon and Mae Dawn Larson have recently returned from visiting in California. They attended a surprise birthday party for their daughter Earleen. Darlene Russell of Fillmore visited her mother Alberta martin to help her celebrate her birthday. Jean Russell was also a visitor. On Monday, Leona Frampton of West Valley City visited with Alberta. Leona is Albertas sister and she also came for Alberta s birthday. Jess and Nancy Wight and daughter of Sandy visited with Alberta, who is their grandmother and great grandmother. John and Jaylene Wegener of Manti are proud parents of a baby boy bom Saturday October 8 at the Gunnison Valley Hospital. Grandparents and Jay and Janice Cluff of Manti and Geoffrey and Elaine Harris. This little guy makes 25 grandchildren for Geoffrey and Elaine and the first grandchild for the Cluffs. Jimmy and Kristy Wegener of Salt Lake City are enjoying a new baby boy. He was bom in August Eric Maxwell and daughter Mikki of Albuquerque, New Mexico have been visiting Ed and Ruth Maxwell. Steve and Betty Roberts attended a dinner party in Salt Lake City. The party was in honor of Chris Hobbs and Sherry Peterson who were recently married. Christ is Steve and Bettys nephew. Last Tuesday Betty Roberts was in Loa to attend a luncheon for the Sanpete Quilt Guild. It was held at the home of Leah Prater. Fourteen ladies attended and had a very enjoyable day. Teresa Frandsen and her daughter Jessica from Boise Idaho have been visiting in Gunnison. They have visited with her parents Dee and Lorene Willardsen and with her sister Delene Coates. Robert and Melissa Peterson and their daughter have recently moved to Gunnison from Fayette. They are living in the Gunnison 2nd Ward. Salina News Evelyn Kiesel Barbara Bates has been visiting Ruby Peterson. Mary Kiesel has home spending some time with her mother, Evelyn Kiesel. Mr. and Mrs. Devere Dennis of St. George, were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Paul Ericson, and attending the birthday celebration of their son, Jared. 529-753- 9 Mrs. SuZanne Beach and Rochelle Erickson went to Salt Lake City to go through the LDS Temple with Elder Corbridge, who had been stationed here in Salina two years ago. He was being released and wanted to have friends accompany him for the final time before leaving the area. . Izola Bartholomew visited last week in Cedar City with her granddaughters, Amy Bartholomew and Mr. and Mrs. Mike (Beth) Manwaring and daughters. Izola visited this last weekend in Tooele with Mr. and Mrs. Orin Willardsen. Mr. and Mrs. Royce Har-ro- p of Centerville spent the weekend with Mr and Mrs. Richard Har-rop. Jan Crane was released Sunday as 1st Counselor in the Young Women Organization and was sustained as secretary in the Primary Organization. Mr. and Mrs. John Moore and sons of Orem and Kirt Mellor of Salt Lake were weekend guests at the home of Ivan and Bessie Mellor. Conrad Nielson Conrad Nielson, age 90, of October 4, 1988 in a died Salina, Center. Care Mayfield He was bom November 19, 1897 in Salina to Hans C. and Mary Hanson Nielson. He married Darthella J. Poulson, March 2, 1 921 in the Manti LDS Temple. He was a farmer and livestock man. He served on the Salina City s president of Browns served Council; Hole Grazing Association; president of the Salina Creek Irrigation Co; active in Scouting program; and an Elder in the Salina 4th Ward. He loved the outdoors and fisherman. He loved ardent an was and gardening. and hunting fishing He farmed his own farm and worked on his own farm until he was 65 time he years of age. At the time of his death, he was the oldest man having lived his entire life in Salina. Funeral services were held October 8, 1989 in the Salina LDS Stake Center. Burial was in the Salina Eastside Cemetery, under the direction of Springer-- T umer Mortuary. Mr. and Mrs. Eric Neilson and son Micheal of Conga Park California are in Utah for the Elk Hunt, they are guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Christensen. Patrice Willie, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Willie of Blanding is attending Snow College and she visited last week with Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Mellor. Mr. and Mrs. Jed Mellor attended the blessing of their great granddaughter Sunday at the 19th Ward in Edgemont Stake in Provo. SAndra and Joey Heath and family visited with them on Sunday at their campsite. Marshall Sorenson of Salt Lake City was down for the Elk Hunt and visited with parents El- ood and Julia Sorenson. Marshall and Elwood had an enjoyable time together being in the mountains and hunting. Phyllis Cowley took her mother Vera Jensen of Salina to America Fork Wednesday for cataract operation on her eyes. They were joined by Phyllis sister Belva Burr of Kearns. Vera is staying with Phyllis since the operation. Dean and Jentry Anderson returned last week from a very enjoyable trip of three weeks. They traveled at their leisure stopping to enjoy whatever suited them each day. They especially enjoyed visiting college campus in the various states, at Notre Dame they watched the band practice their half time activity as well as seeing a soccer 528-794- 8 J game and a girls football game. They traveled through 22 states and went into Toronto, Canada. Some of the highlights of their trip were seeing the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Air Force Academy, Church Hill Downs and Niagara Falls. The most beautiful scenery was in the adirondacks in New York. They enjoyed dining on a boat on the Coast of Maine and were caught in rush hour traffic in the Broncs. Her name is Kelsey and she weighed 8 lbs and 1012 ozs and was bom in Payson. Mike and Laurie moved from Mayfield to Gunnison the first of September. A Wedding reception was held in Ephraim Saturday night for Mark Yardley of Christenburg and Kaylene Birch of Ephraim. Mark is the son of Gene and Anita Yardley. Mark and Kaylene were married in the manti Temple Saturday. Tom and Loa Yardley are the grandparents. The Yardley family gathered from the Salt Lake Valley and the Gunnison Valley for this family affair. The wedding dinner was held in the Mayfield Church. Mark and Kaylene will be living in Logan where they will be going to school and working. John and Sherri Bjerregaard were home over the weekend with their new little daughter Stacey. In Historic Eureka Springs, Arkansas they visited sacred projects of the Elma M. Smith Foundation, The Christ of the Ozarks, the great passion play which is a powerful life like drama depicting Christs last week on earth. The performance is held in an outdoor Amphitheater. In Branson, Mo. they went to Silver Dollar City, then on the Lake of the Ozarks. THey attended Ozark Opry Shows in each of these cities. They visited the Liberty Jail and spent time with Daniels relative in Elwood, Wathena and Hiawatha, Kansas. They saw some beautiful autumn colors and enjoyed watching the farmers harvest their crops as they traveled through many miles of farmland on their way home through Denver, Colorado. r v Crop and Agriculture Report Excellent J fall harvest weather continued for Utah farmers, with virtually all days suitable for field work, according to the Utah Agricultural Statistics Service. Lack of moisture is cause for concern for fall seeded grains and winter range growth. Sixty two percent of respondents reported soil moisture short, while 38 reported adequate. Sixty percent of the winter wheat was seeded, compared with 82 percent last year and the 68 percent average. Third cutting of alfalfa was 87 percent complete, which was ahead of the 81 percent a year ago and the 68 percent average. Ten percent of fourth cutting was harvested compared with 14 percent last year. Can silage harvest was 65 complete behind the 69 percent of last year, but ahead of the 43 percent average. Com grain harvest was under way. Forty one percent of the cattle and 44 percent of the sheep had moved from summer range, seven days ahead of normal. Fifty percent of respondents reported stock water very short to short, and 50 percent - reported adequate. Hay and roughage supplies were short to adequate. Livestock were in fair to good condition. |
