Show f &- a x - Volume 66 Number 34 Wednesday, August 24, 1988 Price 35 Cents NEXT MEETING SEPT. 6 Council has short sweet meeting The August 15, 1988 meeting of the Salina City Council was a short, sweet one, according to Coun-cilmembe- The following items are taken the from unapproved City Council Minutes: Fire Chief Charles Woodside presented the Fire Department bylaws to the Council, and asked that the Council review them and approve them at their next Council meeting. Mayor Grant Stubbs and Council discussed the pressurized irrigation system, and the motion was made and approved to lift the restrictions on watering, with the exception that no one will water on Mondays. The Tax Limitation bill was discussed, but no action was taken. Crossing Guards were discussed and Chief Gordon Kiesel and Mayor S tubbs will review applicants after the August 19 deadline, and meet with Councilmembers to get approval of the ones chosen. Councilman Roger Taylor complimented Chief Kiesel on the fast work he had done to locate and recover Dee Nordfeldts van. Councilman John Learning presented two business licenses for approval: Arlon Nelson, Councilman Ronald Crane asked that a double yellow line or no passing line be painted oh the new road on 4 th West. Council approved this action. The meeting was adjounred at 8:36 p.m. The next meeting of the Salina will be held Tuesday, Council City August 6, 1988, due to the Labor Day Holiday. The gravel will be used to resurface two areas: from 7 mile to Mt. T errel, and from Gooseberry campground READY TO GO TO WORK: down. The intent is to eventually have the entire roadway paved - with date set for 1 995. The graveling on the roads should be finished next summer. Area schools prepare for Aug. 29 opening Day Monday, August 29, is the opening day of the 1988-8- 9 school year for Sevier School District, and three of the new faces among district personnel are administrators. Will Jolley, Annabella, is the new principal of Salina Elementary, and Randy Johnson, Marysvale, is the new principal of South Sevier Middle School. Dr Brent L. Rock became superintendent in June, replacing John Carl Tuft, who retired. Campgrounds and open spaces were filled with campers, tents and trailers. Hunter success was reported light. The season will continue into September. said. It is hoped the gravel will make the 7 mile Gooseberry road an all weather road. The other project will involve the scarifying of the gravel on the Gooseberry road, and adding new gravel to help the washboarding situation. That area just doesnt have enough fines in it, said Lay. There is a lot of light traffic on that section of road, Lay noted. This doesnt help the situation. According to Lay, the graveling projects should be completed by the middle of next summer.
