Olympus Rates High At Utah Girls State A sharp Olympus High School girl was elected governor of Utah Girls State and three of her classmates were elected to other offices last week as they attended the annual American Legion Aux- iliary sponsored Girls State at Utah State University In Logan. Elected was governor Meredith Barker, 17, dughtei of Mr. and Mrs. Robert B. Barker, 2040 Pheasant Circle, also served as a state delegate and building inspector during the week of July Miss Barker, who has maintained a high record of academics and citicenship, was also the recipient of the American Legion Medal which who side pool puts tetter living presented to her as a student of Olympus Junior High for outstanding leadership Other Olympus students who made office at Girls State were Jill Baker, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Q. H. Baker, 2209 Fardown Avenue, elected was county assessor, state delegate and state central committee delegate; Shari Young, 16, daughter of Col. and Mrs. W. B. Young, 2605 Standford Lane, elected city judge, city party secretary, and postmistress; and Christine Lattin, 17, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas F. Lattin, 3642 South 2500 East, elected mayor of Brown City, permanent party chairman and sergeant-at-arm- s. . These girls were among hundreds of others from high schools throughout the state who were selected to attend Girls State to learn functions of local, state and federal government offices. The Olympus students were sponsored by the Holladay American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 71.
