C. May THE PROBLEM OF PARALLAX Time for another lesson. So go grab your camera ami we will get down to business. This time we will cover a few of the more common faults in taking pictures, especially for those using tbe simple box camera we discussed last week. PICTURES TOO DARK. If your prints are dark, there was not enough light to adequately expose your film. If you will take your camera and load it with the film you normally use, then take experimental pictures under various lighting conditions (i.e. direct sunlight, open shade, cloudy sky, indoors, by window and so on) you will get a fairly good idea of the best lighting circumstances for your camera and film. Sometimes changing the type of film you use will help. However, if there is any doubt of how much light you have, use a flashbulb or floodlight to provide additional illumination. PICTURES TOO LIGHT. This is an unusual circumstance for box camera users and indicates that there is too much light reaching the film. The box camera is specfically designed to take pictures in the bright sun and you should not normally be able to overexpose your film. However, you may be using a film which is too sensitive and changing film type may be your answer. Run a test roll of film. If the problem appears severe and aU of your pictures in normal light are overexposed (too light), then your camera may be out of whack and you had better take it to your dealer and have it checked. PICTURES BLURRED. This can be attributed to one principel cause.. ..YOU, the camera operator. You probably moved the camera when you took the picture, or you forgot to tell your subject to hold still and your subject moved. In either case, motion is the cause of blurring and the best correction is to hold the camera as steadily as possible (bracing it against your body and holding your breath when you take the picture) and keeping your subject stiU at the same time. There is one other cause, getting too close to the ed from subject. The average box camera is about five to six feet to infinity. If you get closer than five feet you run the risk of a blurred subject. Therefore, stay six to seven feet away cm your closeups. Here again test a roll of film. X- iTHIS WEEKS WINNERr I mm MS?
