be run as a business organization and not as a civic club it is customary that the honorl honor that of being president be passed around among the various members in civic groups other officers for 1936 will include C W love jr of st SL george first vice president john redd of price second vice president and ray E carr of richfield secretary treasurer reelected the election was held at the annual meeting of the associated civic clubs in st george on saturday although unable to attend arry any of the regular business sessions president alvin P adams of the western air express talked to members of the club and directors regarding the possibility of having its regular los angeles salt lake city planes stop at bryce canyon cainion nati national park he said that it if he could be assured of the completion of an airport near the park before the first of june the company will start advertising the southern utah attractions immediately if satisfactory arrangements are made air passengers will be permitted to stop over at bryce for sightseeing sight seeing trips to the other points of interest in southern utah and northern arizona J E garn formerly of richfield and now regional supervisor of airports for the united states department of commerce accompanied mr and will work with civic clubs on the project to construct the airport a VV ier A project will be set up with garfield county as the sponsor A special committee of L A of milford walter G lunt of cedar city and james 11 sargent of panguitch will meet with the garfield county commissioners in an effort to find ways of raising the countes coun tys part of the cost in discussing dis cusing the matter at the st george meeting it was brought out that southern utah would gain materiale mate materially riall y through the advertising given it by the air lines the executive committee which will handle all business matters not acted upon by the directors will cansis consist t of the president both vice standing committees and their recommendations for next year the directors voted to request the federal government to change its regulations governing and other federal projects 60 gic that workers who have so far stayed off the relief rolls and who are now in need of work may obtain it the decision followed a heated discussion over the handling of federal relief funds alleged red tape methods were condemned by directors present and I 1 E brockbank president of the provo chamber of commerce according to the reports of a special committee the utah congressional delegation and others will be requested to use their influence in having federal projects changed so that persons who have not called for government relief but who are now in need of work will be able to obtain it in opening the convention of the associated civic clubs president martines Mar lines gave a review of work carried on during the past year for the benefit of the new directors many of whom were present for the f describe the attractions of the territory contest for school children to bring out the advantages of each school district road signs calling the attention of travelers to southern utah scenic displays to be placed in hotels information bureaus and other places where they may be seen publication of a small pamphlet newspaper advertising regular press releases distribution of booklets now on hand and sale of stationery on which is printed a map of southern utah an attractive ht membership insignia in explaining the program mr lunt assured the directors and members that if properly handled the plan will give utah the most comprehensive and effective advertising ver that it has ever received he added that during the year other features may be added A report of the finances of the civic group gr
