instead of just game animals is the biggest reason for Utah's low deer population That was the opinion of Darys Ekkcr Hanksvillc president of the Wayne Chapter of the Western Association of Land Users "Predators are keeping the deer d low and population at a vet there is little effort to control them" Ekkcr said Ekkcr echoed the sentiments of WALU members in calling for state agencies involved in game management to include predator control as part of their management program Ekkcr said that in 1932 while working gold mines in the Henry Mountain areas he and other miners noted that the deer population in what he called the best deer range in the world had dropped to an alarming low number With the help of government trappers 52 mountain hons were shot and killed that year and a predator control effort continued until in the early 1940s when the deer population was back up "From 1945 to 1965 the Henry Mountains were producing some of the biggest and best deer in the nation" Ekkcr said
