Show W p CIEs OF one of Rich fields great old men buried on new years eve it was a long and a useful life that closed when W C B orrock one of Rich fields great old men passed away friday from the effects of a paralytic stroke after a comparatively arat ively short suffering he had been almost a landmark of our city and all of richfield sympathizes with the bereaved survivors he had been prominent in our business social and political life he had been an active and faithful church worker he took interest in every everything tIling that pertained to the welfare of the community ni and all his acts were characterized by method and system how systematic he be went about things is e evidenced ced by the fact that among the papers he left his children childre n found a short autobiography written by himself which he called my life history 11 this biography mentions every fact of his life and reads 1 I was born bom in glasgow scotland february 9 1849 my parents john find and may cummings cum orrock moved from scotland to england about the 1855 and located in liverpool year where my father was drowned while boating on the river mersey shortly af after t er his death my mother moved to bolton lancashire with her two chil children dreno myself and sister elizabeth here we were all baptized into tile the L D S church at hall i th wood near tong by william ogden on february 26 1863 1 I was ordained a priest in the ka priesthood by alexander foster our family emigrated to utah in june 1868 cros croc sing the atlantic in the sailing ship emerald isle this sea voyage lasting two to months and traveling fo for r three weeks by bv wagon across the plains 1 I left lef t the comp company aily of saints and worked on the rail railroad road at tl the he head until christ christmas anas echo echa canyon of later I 1 located in santaquin San utah I 1 married mary ann ogden county count y N november at 5 1869 in the endowment on wells H house apostle daniel baniel performed the ceremony in the fall continued on page five W C B orrock dies from effects of paralytic stroke continued from page one I 1 of 1871 we moved to richfield there wele born through this marriage eight children three boys and five ficci girls my wife mary ann took sud denly sick while attending the dedication of the manti temple and died on the of may 1888 a few days after the opening of the temple 1 I was vas ordained a high priest on I 1 being set apart as second councilor to bishop poulson in the bishopric of the richfield ward to fill the vacancy created when brother gotlieb ence was called on a mission in the spring of 1874 on the organizing gan izing of the united order I 1 joined the same and was called to have charge of a company of farmers w which position I 1 held until the order was disorganized in the fall of 1877 this same fall the county court appointed L P christensen james sellers 1 an and d myself to settle up the business e S s of t the ie order with john A helstrom as secretary in april 1884 I 1 was set apart for a mission to great britain and labored in the leeds and manchester conference for some twenty si six months I 1 have lived in Ri rich clifield field continuously since the fall of 1871 on the day of february I 1 married martha al ogden and from this marriage I 1 ii have ave four children one boy and three girls all my children are members of the church in good stand standing inz for which I 1 thank my heavenly father and trust they will ever continue in the I 1 same the surviving children chil dien from mr Or rocks first wife are J W orrock of midway william T orrock mrs chariton joseph H orrock and mrs chas wilson of richfield ric h and mrs maud christensen of beaver those surviving from his second wife are eugene orrock 0 of ely nevada mrs airs J 1 I curtis of richfield mrs hillard vorhees of manti and mrs A D anderson of richfield thirty eight grandchildren and twenty one great grandchildren are also among the survivors funeral services were held monday afternoon in the first ward chapel C P christensen of the ward bishopric conducting soren offered the invocation musical numbers included selections by a quartet composed of mrs jas M 1 peterson mrs F H gunn J W olsen and elmer strobel and solos by mrs jas M peterson and robert poole miss molba melba ence and miss aliss lenna thurber acted as accompanists joseph ogden read a biographical sketch of the deceased and jos H eckersley kersley Ee of salt lake city a convert of mr orrock spoke of him in terms of highest respect the benediction was pronounced by A G young under the supervision of the relief society grandchildren giand children of the deceased carried the many beautiful floral fl 0 r a 1 tributes other grandchildren R rollo 0 ll 11 0 see i 1 1 er keith wilson dare clara orrock em cyril y i i orrock ted orrock and deloy hansen acted as pall bearers A long cortege of cars followed the remains to the city cemetery ter y where charles wilson dedicated the grave |
