The fact that Mrs. Reid also directed the picture is ample assurance of Its charm, its interest, its fine workmanship. - For there is no director today who can handle elemental human passions with such direct simplicity, and restrained appeal as can Mrs. Reid. And what a triumph- - To toke a story of a young girl, as wild as the mountains wherein she lived, as free as the birds of the air, and show Life trying to mould her, to change her, to break her, not with soft persuasions but with overwhelming devastating blows, and to see this simple child of Nature take these blows and turn them into good for herself and all those about her is as remarkable a piece of photodrama as has ever been conceived and executed in vTapn history. Mrs. Reids only rivals fordirectorial handling of so simple a plot for the story has no heavy unless we call Fate the menace are those foreign directors who hold first place only because they are more widely known. 1 .
