Police officers from Layton saw $3395. Under the chairmanship of Tom Winegar, assisted by Bob Doyle Talbot and Bob Wine-gathe Rotary sponsored a contest to name and color the new little car. There were prizes given in three different age group categories. One child was selected as the grand prize winner and received a season pass to Surf N Swim. The grand prize winner was Jeremy Letz, son of Paulette Letz and James Letz. Jeremys name suggestion, Scooter, was printed on the new car. Scooter was unveiled two weeks ago at the Layton Hills Mall. Kids loved him immediately. They touched Scooter, watched his lights flash, listened to his siren and learned from the taped messages that can be programed into the cars speaking system. Scooter has other capabilities also. It is equipped with a wireless speaking system that allows an officer some distance from the car to talk through the remote cars radio speaker system to kids and answer questions the kids have. 'Police department officials say many young children are frightened of adults and find it easier to communicate with a large toy like Scooter than with a live person.
