Red Cross schedules workshop Originally Congress and other had promised tax the best tax year ever next year but with the Federal deficit still hanging over the nations head, that could change, CPA Ray H. Allen of Kaysville says. In the meantime the nations taxpayers are grappling with the new W-- 4 information form and wondering what impact the new tax laws taking affect with this years income activity will produce, he told the Kaysville Chamber of Commerce Wednesday. Congress is wavering on its interpretation of the W-- 4 forms and he urged anyone interested should write letters expressing concerns to their senators and representatives. Thats probably one of the worst documents to come out of the IRS, he said. Although tax rates are supposed to go down, generlly, Mr. Allen said that is now in question with federal authorities. As set up now, a 15 percent income tax rate would be imposed for married taxpayers up to $28,000 income, 28 percent from that to $45,000 and 35 percent to $90,000. Unmarried taxpayers would pay 15 percent up to $23,000, 28 percent to $38,000 and 38.5 percent to $54,000 to $80,000. The higher rate is hit sooner with the new tax laws, Mr. Allen indicated. Personal exemptions will increase from $1,080 for 1986 to $1,900 in 1987 and $1,950 for 1988. At the same time, standard deductions for those filing a joint return would rise from $3,670 for 1986 to $3,760 for this year and $5,000 in reform-backe- MARY FERN HEPWORTH WASHBORN Also surviving are three brothers and two sisters, George William Hepworth, Salt Lake City; Rulon Delos Hepworth, California; Homer M. Only four-fifth- s entertainment including meals is well-know- now deductable. Educational travel no longer qualifies although business travel will still be fully deductable, he explained. Consumer credit card interest drops to 65 percent this year and down to 40 percent in 1988 and 20 percent the following year, the CPA explained, although business interest will remain fully deduct- able. Investment interest, formerly offered up to $10,000, has now been eliminated unless investment income offsets that. It really cramps down on partnerships and some other business arrangements, he continued. Operation of a business in a home previously could allow for a loss but now only covers expenses needed to enable it to break even, he said. On top of that, income averaging has become a thing of the past. And if youve been claiming your children attending school on your taxes they cant do it, as well, any longer. Changes have also been implemented affecting unearned gifts for children, he said. Anyone with questions should contact his tax adviser, he urged. Stone graduates Air Force Reserve Airman Darrell R.
