TOOUMCE WOLGAST AND Flyweight Championship Claimants Jeered By Crowd In Slow Bout. NEW YORK, Dec. 27. (TIE) Midget Mid-get Wolgast, of Philadelphia, and Frankie Genaro, of New York, still shared the world flyweight championship cham-pionship today despite the fact that they met last night in a 15-round bout which was supposed to decide the issue. - They entered the ring at Madison Madi-son Square Garden with Wolgast holding the recognition of the New York State Boxing commission, while Genaro was recognized as .champion by the National Boxing association. They left the ring bearing, the. same laurels, and this was because Harold Barnes, one ol the judges, said that Genaro had won, while Tommy Sheridan, the other judge, said that Wolgast had been the winner and Referee Patsy Haley termed it a' draw. It was a mighty poor exhibition of the boxing art. The crowd ex pressed its opinion with frequent outbursts of derisive hand-clapping, some earnest hissing and no end of booing. Many of the spectators began be-gan to leave the arena at the start of the 12th round. There were not more than a dozen solid blows struck by both boxers. Wolgast's left eye was completely closed but this was the only evidence of punching. Occasionally Occa-sionally one of the contenders would start what looked like a definite def-inite bid for action, but none of these outbursts was long lived. The United Press score shaet showed Genaro had a point margin. This view was shared by virtually every boxing writer at the ringside, some of whom gave as many as 12 rounds to Genaro. The flyweight division, a relatively relative-ly new one to boxing, has had just four credited world champions. The first was Jimmy Wilde. Second Sec-ond was Jancho Villa, who won the title in 1923. Villa died and Genaro Gen-aro was universally acclaimed champion. Genaro lost the title to Fidel La Barba and in 1925 La Bar-ba Bar-ba hung up his gloves to study at Leland Stanford university. The title was then declared vacant and no universal agreement as to the world's champion has been had since. Wolgast, who is 21 years old, won New York state title recognition by Beating Black Bill, of Cuba, in a tournament conducted here laet spring. The N. B. A., however, proclaimed pro-claimed Genaro, a 29-year-old boxer with 11 years of ring experience as champion, after Frankie won bout with Frenchy Belanger in Toronto To-ronto in February, 1928. Both Wolgast and Genaro are Italians. Wolgast has been an 8 to 5 favorite throughout most of the, week, but just before fight time the odds lengthened so that he was a 5, to 1 favorite with no Genaro money in sight. It was expected that ' the Wolgast-Genaro business would have to be done all over again and this drew. no. cheers from boxing critics who predicted it. h f !
