Cabinet officials say they want to close up those Utah appointments at the earliest possible moment. Some interest is felt here in the local election in Salt Lake to fill the legis lative vacancy. It is confidently expected ex-pected that in view of early statehood for Utah, no mistake will be made. The democrats haye been almost unanimous unani-mous in both branches of congress for the admission bill, and leading demo crats in the senate will do their utmost to press the passage of the Utah state- i hood measure. Delegate Rawlins has had several conferences with the secretary of the interior with reference to opening the Uintah and Uncompahgre reservations and Secretary Smith assures him he will make favorab'e recommendation to congress as soon as practicable. |
