Show COMING SUMMER INSTITUTE. The Teachers of Utah County Decide De-cide to Hold it in Pleasant Grove Canyon. Promptly at 11 o'clock, Saturday morning last. Supt. E. A. Wilson, at the Central schoolhouse, took his position po-sition as president of the Utah County Association of District School Teachers, Teach-ers, and as chairman of the meeting. On account of the death of one of the relatives of Mrs. Giles, the Professor was not present to enthuse the fraternity fra-ternity w ith his wonted melodies and to present his part of the programme. The Supt. presented an order of business, bus-iness, which was accepted as a guide ; in future 'proceedings of the assoeia- tion. j Professor J. M. Anderson, of Lehi, ! presented a veil wntlm article on the i "American School System." After revieving the history of the Chinese j j system of education, the Egyptian, the ! j Grecian, and the more modern European Euro-pean systems, together with the edu-; edu-; caticnal rt formers of past periods, the I essayest dwelt upon the excellencies j ofthe American system of free schools, I and the power it exerted in preparing J and combining- the various forces of i childhood, and in directing its ener- gies and powers towards tlie unif action ac-tion of the lace in all matters tending , to levation of morals, grandeur of , conception and perfection of execution. execu-tion. ' Forkw principal of ? the Santaquin I school, delivered his ideas on the I methods of teaching geography in a manner that reflected credit, to his active ac-tive mind and flexible tongue. It wns agreed to that April 10th next be set apart by all the district schools of "this county as Ann Arbor Day. Prof. J. B. Walton's physical calis-thentic calis-thentic drill was, if anything, superior supe-rior to his previous masterly thorough ness. In the school room at the institutes, insti-tutes, on the floor of the association, at anything educational he is full of system and his works have the precision precis-ion of a pendulum at all times. The coming Summer Institute nerved all to action. Each district had its pet locality; but the "Xorth triumphed." Above Pleasant Grove, a little south of easi, and, probably about a three bom's drive, lies a verdant mountain-valley mountain-valley closely hemmed by stupendous towering cliffs. Into this elevated region re-gion of beauty and solitude; the mental men-tal strained pedagogues will hie themselves them-selves on the loth day of Juue next to impart and receive instruction. If the fruits of past institutes held by the teachers of this county are trustworthy indications of what the next will be, it is safe to predict that as it succeeds the others in the order of time it will proye itself superior to all others in the scale of advanced thought and perfected products, because be-cause "Excelsior" is their watch-word and "betttrmer.t" their inspiring fountain.
