I i - The Salt Lake papers today report that on yesterday afternoon in that city a joint meeting of the board of directors of the Deseret and Provo WooleL mills was had. At that meet ing it was decided to call a meeting next month to formulate plans for the consolidation of the two mills under one management. As cne of the directors di-rectors explained, the movement was calculated not for the purpose of forming form-ing a combine to raise the price of woolen goods, but for the purpose of reducing expenses, simplifying processes, pro-cesses, and paring down the cost of production. The meeting is called for Monday, March 4th, and it is to be attended at-tended by all the stockholders of both manufactories. Plans for the consolidation consoli-dation are not yet perfected, but it may be said in advance that they will in-I in-I yolve the reduction of the officers to one board, instead of having them in two sets as hitherto; also the reduction reduc-tion of the number of expensive operatives oper-atives such as designers, to one set. Then the work of the different mills can be classified, so that one will- manufacture man-ufacture one grade, while the other confines itself to another grade. The i eduction in the number of officers and expensive employes will effect a yery material saving; the classifying of the mills will do away with the expense ex-pense inyolved in the delay attendant upon the change of machinery in shifting shift-ing from one grade to another. Another An-other saving of no mean importance will be accomplished by the fact that but one set of traveling men will have to bJ employed. The change will also result in giving an opportunity to concentrate con-centrate attention upon the improving of the character of the output. Coal coal 1 1 coal! ! 1 at A. O. A few days ago The Dispatch recorded re-corded the donation by Mr. J. W. N. Whitecotton of a fine collection of books to the B. Y. academy library. We felt certain that this matter needed but to be named to bring forward similar gifts from our leading citizens. It is with pleasure therefore that we name ss the next generous donor, Hon. W. II. Dusenberry, who sent to the academy yesterday, a series of scientific works in library calf, which lately cost him fifty dollars. All eyes are " turned to the drouth sufferers of Nebraska. The generous south has sent train loads of provisions to the afflicted people of that state and help has come from all parts of the union. Still the suffering is not all relieved. re-lieved. Today Thk Dispatch re ceived a copy of the Weekly Tribune, a country paper published at Callaway, Nebraska, primed on wall-paper, the stock of white paper being run out and the publisher, Frank W. Conly, being entirely without money and therefore unable to buy more. Friends of Mr. Conly's, living in Callaway donated him the wall-paper and in the issue printed on that paper he makes a pitiful piti-ful appeal for help, ' saying that he has no shoes or wraps for his wife and four children. The relief committees are able to supply food, but Mr. Conly thicks, "this setting type with your toes cut and the thermometor ten below be-low zero with a fire of old exchanges is rather tough on a half fed printer." The paper reports many cases of destitution desti-tution and horrible suffering, and makes one think that altogether Nebraska Ne-braska is a good state to get out of, which all who could did last, fall.
