She began her acting career at Provo High School, under Ray B. Jones’ direction, as Emily Webb in Thornton Wilder’3s Pulitzer Prize play “Our Town.” Sheis repeating the role this month in a show co-produced by Walk-Ons, Inc. and Valley Centre Theatre. “Our Town” will play Fridays, Saturdays and Mondays beginning Jan. 11 with performances scheduled through Feb. 4 Show timeis 8 p.m.at the theater. 60 N. Third W., Provo. It is being dedicated to Mr.Jones, whohas taught dramaat Provo High School for 24 years. Hedirects ‘Our Town’every four years because he wants all high school students to have access to the classic. Miss Luke selected ‘‘Our Town’’ for production because the play embodies many feelings she has for Provo. After studying in New York City overa period of five years, she wanted to return to a simplerlifestyle with morecontact with a townandits people. She has pooled the talents of some of Utah Valley's better known performers to select a cast. Jerry Elison, Orem Junior High School drama instructor and technical director at Sundance Summer Theatre, plays Mr. Webb. Jean Harris, English teacher at Lehi High School will play Mrs. Gibb. Georgia Faux, instructor at Brigham Young University, and David Johnson, American Fork Junior High Schoolteacher, arealso in the cast. Norm Thoreson, Orem,is being featured in the stage managerlead role. Corey Sprague, BYU graduate, has been recruited from California toeyeorge Webb opposite Miss Luke. s been paired with Miss Luke in “Diary of Anne Frank” and ‘Guys and Dolls.”’ Also familiar to Utah Valley audiences is Star Roman, who plays Mrs. Soames. Brent LeFevreis directing the production; Beth Sovieralski is assistant dixector. Patricia Hickman is designing costumes. One of Miss Luke's goals is to bring a regional theater to Utah. She wants to residein and be responsive to Utah Valley MIO audiences, and help them becomecognizant of a higher artistic level Another goal is ‘‘environmental theatre.” Miss Luke has tried to select settings for her plays that adapt well to the environment. “Our Town,’’ she says. plays well in intimate, simple theatre-inthe-round, which makes Valley Centre Theatre an ideal vehicle for the production. When she performed ‘‘WestSide Story’’ she used a now demolished wing at the Utah State Hospital where graffiti graced the walls, and she transformed the set into a grimystreet setting which worked well isae musical. “Guys and Dolls’ she used the ase of Provo as part of her setting by producing theplay at The Castle, in Provo. “Love's Labours Lost’’ worked wellin the park setting she used last summer.
