It would be more' dangerous to the social system than robot bombs dangerous to plutocracy, to imperialism, to vested privilege, to selfishness, greed and exploitation. Yes, it would tumble these things to oblivion. What the sun is to the earth and human life, love would be to human relationships. When we really discover what the power of love will do we will find thai ' it will be the greatest discovery it is possible to malje. It has been talked about and held out as an ideal ; through all the centuries, but men have refused to take hold of it and use it. The whole gospel is summed up jin the following words of the Master : "By this shall men know that ye are My disciples, that ye love one another." j SOME PERSONAL ITEMS When we make such mistakes as printing "defies" for deifies, and use San Francisco Tribune instead of Salt Lake Tribune, whe must lay it on to the typesetters. We are now starting our OPEN HOUSE for Christmas, which means that in this office we will keep open house every day from now until Christmas and we expect our friends to remember us liberally. Get ready for it. We are glad to have a sister of Senator Elbert D. Thomas on the list. Mrs. Rose T. Graham came in and subscribed and said she liked the paper. Thanks. Investigations have brought to light one kind of "free" enterprise which is one of the worst practices known. It i is the loan shark business. Down in Texas they found that honest working men who needed a little money were charged all the way from 120 to 1000 on small loans, and some of them were all ruined by it. There were a ' dozen different devices in connection with the loans that were as devilish as man can make them. That's how men prey on their fellows for profit. ' WHAT's"HE worth? "That's what we ask about every man. We refer to his financial standing. But a man's rth is not determined by his possessions. Character, ability and a willingness to serve are the standards for human evaluation. The Christian philosophy of life recognizes that every man is worth something. The most striking imperative of the Sermon on the Mount is this "Despair of no man." No individual is wholly bad. There is something good in the worst of men. Even the meanest are redeemable. Realize this when you visit a prison or walk through the slums. He is less than Christian who counts any man hopeless." Destiny of Ration at Stake Inilatton Would Bring Total Ruin GREEK SHOPS CLOSE; MONEY NO GOOD INFLATION DOING ITS DEADLY WORK Athens, Nov. 2 (AP) Shops all over Athens were closing today as the last vestige of confidence in Greek money disappeared. In the ,past 24 hours the value of the drachma slid from the fantastic figure of 10,000,000,000,000 to 22,000,-000,000,0- (trillions) for a British gold sovereign (nomin-ally $4.87). Gold is the only medium of exchange which holds its own and even the U. S. dollar has depreciated. Last week a gold sovereign would buy $8. Today it would purchase $18. The above news-ite- m is FACTUAL. There is very little difference for the people of Greece in being under the subjugation and tyranny of a Fuehrer, than at present to be under the yoke of their own private banking system and held in FINANCIAL BONDAGE! Either condition causes untold suffering and misery. IT CAN HAPPEN HERE but we must never allow a like disaster to confront this nation! Already the American public has a growing suspicion that ' something is wrong and many are also becoming greatly concerned about the National debt. Once the people can be RIGHTLY INFORMED and the. NEG-LECTED TRUTHS brought to light, they will demand Congress exercise its Constitutional duty to correct our OWN very similar monetary system. This act, and this act alone will be the only SANE method whereby we can EVEN HOPE to save our nation from post-w- ar financial chaos. There is a SAFE and WORKABLE solution to our grave debt problem at the war's end, or even sooner; but selfish and unwise judgment in handling that problem can be the cause of AMERICA'S UNDOING! Convince your-self and others that IT CAN BE DONE without exacting undue hardship, and thus uphold the American tradition of living up to our moral obligations. May I, with all sin-cerity, recommend a book for you to read which will not only prove interesting but very enlightening. Since the book is n, it is meeting with hearty approval among all readers. You "will marvel at its simplicity and clear portrayal of thought. You will be astonished when you leam about the great divergence of the financial system from the principles set forth by the Constitution. You will glean much valuable knowledge, upon which YOUR future welfare and that of OUR country will very largely depend, when you read "OUT OF DEBT, OUT OF DANGER" by Congressman Jerry Voorhis of California. SEVERE INDICTMENTOF COUNTRY'S JAILS An article in the November Woman's Home Companion on the conditions prevailing in the city and county jails across the country certainly stirs one's sympathies for the inmates, especially for the juveniles in states where no laws exist for'their segregation. The jails mentioned are filthy, lousy, ful of bugs, many with no sanitary conditions and all with over-crowdi- and permitting the vilest crea-tures to associate with the boys and girlswho are thrown in because no other means of detention is provided. Thanks to some progressive-minde- d citizens in Utah liberal pro-visions are made for juveniles, which is fine. A civilized nation may be judged by the manner in which" it treat its prisoners, especially the boys and girls who happen to fall into the clutches of the. law. Every state and every large city should have a standing committee of good men and women to be constantly on guard and every so often look into the conditions prevailing in the jails and prisons. And they should be empowered to do something drastic when conditions are not right. As a general rule all that is good in prisoners withers and dies, while all that is bad grows worse. This should be changed about. ' them mjm BY I? P . THOUSANDS Multinly them by thousands and you 'get some idea of the rush on Long Distance each n.ght. them and to us. Why not make fairness your goal, And truth your armour of soul ? Your talk only tends to break down The faith that has won world renown. Citizens Musi Awaken to Dangers or Lose It is time to do some serious thinking about the National debt problem. "Unimportant," you say, "we just owe it to ourselves." Unfortunately, that is NOT SO but it is the actual belief of thousands that we do owe it to ourselves. What an unpleasant shock it will be for the masses when the TRUE FACTS must be disclosed. Do you realize that your very own home is in jeopardy, likewise your life's savings, your war bonds, your pensions and insurance policies? Do you realize also that the future of Democracy and Free Government, the very things we are fighting to preserve, depend upon finding a safe and sensible solution to this grave debt problem? Would you care to be enlightened on a subject that has been purposely cloaked in mystery from Washington's day to the present time? Would you care to know of the manipulations of some 14,500 privately owned institutions, whom we allow to operate throughout the nation and violate the Constitu-tion in a most disgraceful manner; at the same time ex-empting all control branches from income tax on their earnings? Do you know that Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence, once said, that these same institutions, if allowed to continue, would some day deprive the people of all their property until their children will wake up homeless on the continent their fathers con-quered? These vicious practices can be avoided and that "sad day" need never arrive providing we demand Congress to act favorably on an amendment already proposed, the facts of which are not generally known to the public. THE DESTINY OF OUR NATION IS AT STAKE! It is the duty of every loyal American to KNOW THE FACTS about conditions that endanger our government. This can be done by reading the book OUT OF DEBT, OUT OF DANGER by Congressman Jerry Voorhis. It is truly "the book of the hour" since it vividly portrays the TRUTHS that WE SHOULD KNOW, preferably before the war's end. Remember this, "AFTER VICTORY HAS BEEN WON, NUMBER ONE." LeRoy W.
