Shoell, stake clerk 2096 listeners crowded the Timpanogos Stake House and the overflow, held at the Third-, Sixth Ward Chapel. Elder LeGrand Richards of - the Council of the Twelve presided pre-sided and spoke at the general session. Other visiting general church authorities were, Elder Quentin Cannon and Sister Iris R. Creer of the MIA general baords and Elder Walter Dansie of the Church Welfare Committee. Commit-tee. The Sunday morning session was conducted by Stake President Presi-dent Boyd L. Fugal, with the congregation singing, "We Thank Thee O God For a Prophet." Pro-phet." Harvey Rawlinson conducted con-ducted the singing with Irene Jenkins at the organ. Invocation Invoca-tion was asked by Elder Earl Roberts. . , President Ertmann Christen-sen Christen-sen presented the names of the general authorities and the stake officers, and they were sustained by the vote of the members. The stake MIA chorus, directed by Louise Stone, sang, "An Angel From On High," accompanied by Irene Jenkins. President Fugal w.as the opening open-ing speaker. He expressed appreciation, ap-preciation, for the fine lives and church activity of the young people. He exhorted all members mem-bers to be active in the church and . observe the true law of the fast. "We should read the scriptures and have more forgiveness for-giveness in our hearths," he urged. " - Registration Now On for Evening School at BYU Four thousand students from Utah County, and surrounding areas attended Evening Classes Class-es at Brigham Young University Univer-sity in Provo, during the Fall Semester just completed. University officials expect .a similar number will register for spring classes. Registration for -the .Spring Semester begins on , Jan. 29, and will continue thru .Feb.' 1, ' Residents of Utah Valley, Salt Lake Valley and other areas in Utah close to Jie school are particularly encouraged by the university to register for the spring program. Over 300 class es will be offered by 50 depart- ments of the University, A two-year technical program in Business and Office Management, Manage-ment, Accounting, Commercial Art, Electronic Engineering, Genealogical Research, Home Technician, Industrial Technic-" ian, and Photographic Technology, Tech-nology, is available. Certificates in these programs pro-grams can be earned completely complete-ly through Evening School. The BYU Department of Education Ed-ucation also offers six different differ-ent programs leading to the master's degree, also through evening classes. The Evening School offers a. summer program for high school graduates requiring English, Eng-lish, History, and other subjects for university entrance. 'As the concluding number, the MIA Youth chorus sang "The Lord's Prayer," Benediction Bene-diction was offered by Elder Irwin Jensen. ' The afternoon general session convened at 2:30, with President Presi-dent Boyd L. Fugal conducting The Grove Ward Choir and congregation sang "Redeemer of Israel." Stake Chorister Harvey Rawlinson conducted the singing with' Mrs. Rawlinson Rawlin-son at the organ. Invocation was asked by Elder El-der Richard Keetch, after which the choir sang, "Beside the Still Waters," directed by Paul Hanks and accompanied by Dorothy Morehead. Elder Cannon followed and told of the experiences of his daughter in Europe, during which she was accorded honors and accomplished considerable good because of her previous church training. Eugene Bezzant, Stake Super-intedent Super-intedent of the YMMIA, spoke briefly regarding" his faith in the young men of the church. President Ertmann Christensen, Christen-sen, .was the next speaker. He emphaized the importance of the teaching of children ufthe home. "Children learn more by -example than be precept," he said. After the rest song, "Now Let Us Rejoice," Sister Creer said that young people often held the mistaken idea that their wilful auis uaa no innuence upon other people. She cited true instances in-stances where such a concept was proven wrong.. Elder Richards took as the theme of his address the idea that children are God's greatest gift to parents. "Take ihem, teach them and love them," he admonished. For the closing number the choir sang, "Battle Hymn of the Republic," Elder Michael Hunstman pronounced the benediction. ben-ediction. Saturday afternoon and evening even-ing sessions were devoted to solving the problems of the M. I. A. and the Church Welfare Program.
