Show Funeral Services Held Saturday For Donald Slater Touching and impressive funeral fun-eral services were conducted Saturday Sat-urday for Donald Slater, 13, son of Mr. and Mrs. Warren Slater, who lost his life Tuesday by drowning, while swimming with a companion in Biue Springs, X'-, miles west of Pleasant Grove. The ward chapel was filled to capacity with sorrowing relatives, and friends who came to pay their respects to the memory of the dead boy and offer sympahy to his family. With Bishop Reed O. Walker in charge the service began at 2 o'clock. o'-clock. Mrs. Fern Hicks and Mrs. Afton Atkinson sang the opening number. Sometime We'll Understand. Under-stand. They were accompanied by A. R. Overlade. Gerald Belliston, superintendent of the Second ward Sunday school offered the invocation. invocat-ion. First speaker was Scoutmaster R.ay Pulley and Ernest Smith of the Bishopric in charge of deacon work in the ward. Both told of their labors with the boy, and his good work in the organizations. They were followed by an organ solo Danny Boy by A, R.Overlade. Concluding speaker was Burton H. Adams, a close neighbor of the Slater family. After closing remarks of sym-pathty sym-pathty and appreciation by Bishop Walker, Mrs. Hicks and Mrs. Atkinson At-kinson accompanied by Mr. Overlade Over-lade sang the closing number, A Perfect Day. Benediction was pronounced by Robert Marrott. Internment took place in the Pleasant Grove City cemetery, where the dedicatory prayer was offered by Rudolph Nelson an uncle un-cle of Mrs. Slater. The Boy Scouts with their leader, Ray Pulley, attended at-tended in a body and acted as active and honorary pallbearers. |
