Show THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1969 PLEASANT GROVE REVIEW, PEASANT GROVE, UTAH THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 6, 1969 Woolstons to Host Art Exhibit Tea Sunday Afternoon Harold and Fay Woolston, residents of Pleasant Grove, and acclaimed artists in the area,, will be hosts to their many friends next Sun-day afternoon in an Art Exhibit Tea. The event is set for 3 to 6 p.m. in the Provo Utility Build-ing, 251 West 800 North, Provo, Utah. An exhibit of their paintings and prints will be shown there during the month of November. Everyone interested is cor-dially invited to attend the tea and view the artists' work. Legion Will Honor Auxiliary Unit on Thursday, Nov. 13 Members of American Legion Post 70 will pay honor to the Ladies of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 70 with a dinner party set for 7:00 p.m. Nov. 13, in the aMnila Ward Cultural Hall. The event, according to Post 70 Commander Hyrum Holt, will be in recognition of the Golden Annniversary of the American Legion Auxiliary, which was authorized Novem-ber 10, 1919 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Features of the program, following a chicken dinner ser-ved by the Manila Elders Quorum, will be an address by Kay L. Jacob, reports of the Post 70, 1969 delegates to Boys State and a tribute to the Aux-iliary Ladies by Karl Banks. Tickets are being sold by per-sonal contact by members of Post 70 and Unit 70. Jr High Halloween Carnival Proves Successful Event The annual Junior High Hal-loween carnival was held on October 31, and was another successful event. Although no black cats or witches were there, the boys and girls en-joyed themselves, with many of the different activities going on.. Some of the favorite activi-ties were the spook alley, for-tune telling, pumpkin carving cake walks, basketball toss, and of course the food. Thoughout the evening sev-eral records were given away. Lucky numbers were drawn all evening and gifts were given to the luncky ones, these gifts were donatd by the busi-ness men of our city. The com-mittee wishes to thank them for their help. Houtz of Pleasant Grove are announ-cing the forthcoming marriage of their daughter Marilyn to Stephen Robert Adams, son of Mrs. Belva Adams. The young couple plan to be married Nov. 14 in the Salt Lake Temple. A reception will be held that same evening at the Third-Sixt- h Ward cultural hall in Pleasant Grove. Receiv-ing will be from 8 to 10 p.m., and all friends and relatives are cordially invited to attend. The bride is a graduate of the Pleasant Grove School and four-yea- r seminary program. While in school she was active in the color guard and in var-ious clubs. She attended one quarter at Dixie College and is presently attending Continental College of Beauty in Murray. She is an active member of Pleasant Grove Fifth LDS Ward, where she is serving as a Sunday School teacher. The prospective groom grad-uated from the Lehi High School. He attended the Utah Technical College in Provo, and is presently in the Utah Nation-al Guard. He is employed in Draper. '' "I ' ' 4. i. t MISS JULIE ANN HIATT Julie Ann Hiatt and Kirk Carling Will Wed in Salt Lake Temple on Nov. 21 Mr. and Mrs. Ray L. Hiatt of Pleasant Grove are announ-cing the marriage of their daughter Julie Ann to Kirk Carling, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benner J. Carling, also of Pleasant Grove. The young couple will be married Nov.' 21 in the Salt Lake Temple and will be hon-ored that same evening at a reception held in the Timpan-ogo- s Stake House. Both of them are graduates of the Pleasant Grove High School and LDS Seminary. . Julie is now employed at the Bank of Pleasant Grove. Kirk graduated from Utah Trade Technical College and is continuing his education there. He is also assistant manager at Harmon's Take Home in Orem. After their marriage they plan to make their home in Pleasant Grove. V " - : 1 y- - , MAE MORGAN Named Vice Chairman Mae S. Morgan Named Demo Vice Chairman Mae S. Morgan was recently named as the Democratic Party Precinct vice chairman for Pleasant Grove. Mrs. Morgan succeeds Beverly Williamson, who served in that position for the past four years. Mrs. Morgan is employed in Provo at the Central Utah Com-munity Mental Health Office. She worked for Pleasant Grove City as treasurer from 1956 to 1963 when she resigned to ful-fill a work mission for the LDS Church in England, with her husband, the late Ernest Mor-gan. Mrs. Morgan has four child-ren, Mrs. George (Mary Lou) Zinie of Vale, Oregon; Mrs. Ez-ra (Pat) Robertson of Pocatello Idaho; Mrs. Richard (Rowena) Evans of Council, Idaho, and James Morgan of Pleasant Grove. She was recently elected as president of the Orem Chapter of the Business and Profssion-a- l Women's organization. With the appointment of Mrs. Morgan, the reorganization of the local Democratic party has now been completed. W. Gerald Klemm was named chairman and James D. Others on the party committee were Karma Cook and Shirley Pyper. All club members came dressed in Halloween costumes which made the occasion very festive. Everyone had an en-joyable time carving pumpkins, bobbing for apples and a scav-enger hunt. Prizes were given for the games and the best cos-tume. Delicious refreshments were served, following the Hal-loween theme. Those attending besides the ones mentioned above were Shirley Austin, Venetta Daven-port, Kaye Jacob, Karen John-son, Cindy Sutch, Jane Tidwell, Beverly Jarvis and Pat West. Ann Newman was a special guest for the evening. Servicemen News San Antonio Airman Stanley L. Roberts, son of Mrs. Geneva L. Roberts of Pleasant Grove, has completed his basic train-ing at Lackland AFB, Texas. He has been assigned to Shep-par- t AFB, Texas, for training as a medical services specialist VIETNAM Army Sergeant Martin E. Monson, whose parents Mr. and Mrs. Willard M. Monson, and wife Merilee, live in Pleasant Grove, was as-signed as a combat engineer with the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile) in Vietnam, Oct. 9. Seventh Ward Will Hold Bazaar on Friday, November 7 The Seventh Ward Bazaar will be held Friday, Nov. 7 at the Seventh Ward Cultural Hall at 6 p.m. according to Mrs. Cliff Hales, Relief Society president. "Theme of the bazaar will be "A Season for All Good Things" and all ward members are urg-ed to bring their family, and enjoy the fish pond, free mov-ies for the children, and gifts galore for everyone. Funeral Sevices Held Tuesday for Zella T. Monson Funeral services for Mary Zella Thomas Monson, 84, RFD Pleasant Grove, were held Tuesday .November 4 at 1 p.m. in the Manila Ward Chapel, un-der the driction of Bishop David C. Harvey. Mrs. Monson died Saturday, November 1, 1969 at a Pleasant Grove Nursing Home of natural causes. . Speakers, who paid a glowing tribute to the deceased as a wife, mother, neighbor and life-long, church worker, were President Boyd L. Fugal, and Harvey E. Smith. A life sketch was read by Muriel Elliott and Bishop Harvey closed with ap-propriate remarks. Susan Haycock and Tim Ekins favored with a vocal duet, "I Know That My Redeember Lives," accompanied by Lucy Haycock, who also played the preslude and postlude. S. Hal Haycock played an organ med-ley of familiiar melodies. Family prayer was led by Ivan Monson.' Merrill N. War-nic- k asked the invocation and benedication was pronounced by Calvin Whitby. Flowers were cared for and arranged by the Manila Ward Relief Society. . Pallbearers were Wayne and Kevin Clark, Brant, Ross, and Michael Monson and Dennis Swensen.. Burial was in Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, where Ray-mond E. Monson dedicated the grave. Mrs. Monson was bom Dec. 10. 1884 in Provo, the daughter of Chauncey E. and Mary Jane Farrer Thomas. On Dec. 11, 1907 she married George A. Monson in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple. He died Jan. 27, 1963. She was a member of the LDS Church, and had served as president and secretary of the Relief Society, president of the YWMIA, and visiting teacher in the Manila Ward. She was also an officer in the Daughters of Utah Pioneers. She moved to Pleasant Grove when she was 18 years of age and attended Karl G. Maeser school and BYU Academy. Survivors include two sons and two daughters .George El-wo- Monson and Robert T. Monson, both Pleasant Grove; Mrs. Eldon (Helen) Clark, Lehi Mrs. Emery (Maurine) An-drews, Alpine; 14 grandchild-ren; 6 one brother and 3 sisters, Chauncey E. Thomas, Murray; Mrs. Jen-nie Lawrence and Edna Thom-as, both of Salt Lake City; and Mrs. Emma Cornia, Midvale. Neighborhood Group Met with Faye Belliston on Saturday The Neighborhood Friends met at the beautiful home of Faye Belliston Saturday after-noon with Vida Conway as The afternoon was spent in doing needlework and a delic-ious luncheon was served to the following members : Deane Paulson, Minnie Hall, Mae Morgan, Eva Adams, Jenev Ol-son, Stella Barton, Leaone Car-son, Rose Radmall, Bethel All-re- Mary Loader, and Melvina Jones. Valley View Lists School Activities Parents Day will be held Friday, November 14 at Valley View School, according to Prin-cipal R. J. Emal. The event is titled a "Parents, Pupil, Teacher Conference" and stu-dents will confer with the teach-ers. Veterans Day will be celebra-ted at Valley View on Veter-ans Day, Tuesday, November 11. A special program will pay honor to all of the veterans of all of American's wars. Primary election was held at Valley View Wednesday, Nov. 5. Candidates for student offi-cers were nominated by petit-ions signed by a designated number of schoolmates. |
