Show Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Ernest P. Smith Ernest P. Smith, 50, prominent educator and church worker died at his homei at 12 :35 last Sunday after a lingering illness. At the time of his death he was on sick leave from the Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove High School where he had served for many years as instructor of mathematics and social studies. Formerly he was Principal of the OrdervilLe and Kanab High Schools. Mr. Smith was a graduate of the Pleasant Grove High School and was awarded Bachelors and Masters degrees at BYU in the field of education. He has also completed extensive graduate work. He was born April 18, 1909 in Pleasant Grove, a son of Samuel H. and Marie Elizabeth Fischer Smith. In 1936 he married Joan Chamberlain in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. She died in 1944. In 1945 he married Drucilla Loader Load-er in the Salt Lake Temple. Survivors include his widow of Pleasant Grove, two sons and five daughters, Mrs. Verdon (Laurene) iWalker, Provo; Lowell, Low-ell, U. S. Army; Coralee, Ann, Ernest, Nola Jean, Barbara, all of Pleasant Grove; a grandchild; four sisters and four brothers: Mrs. Hanna Jane Carlson, Salt Lake City; Mi's. Sanford (Helen) Walker, Woods Cross; Mrs. Hazel Shelley, American Fork; George LeRoy Smith, PI. Grovle; Vance Smith, Magna; Vivian Smith, Salt Lake City; Ervine Smith, California Cali-fornia and Mrs. James (Virginia) Boulden, Salt Lake City. Mr. Smith has devoted a lifetime life-time of service to his church. He labored as a missionary to the Texas-Louisiana Mission during the years 1933 to 1935. He has served as Stake Clerk, Sunday School superintendent on a ward and 'Stake level and in the bishoprics of the First and Second Wards. He has taught in the Gospel Doctrine classes and in practically practic-ally all other auxiliary organizations organi-zations of the church. Other church activities include High Priest presidencey; ward teacher and chairman of the Genealogy Gen-ealogy committee. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. in the Timpanogos Stake House under the direction of Bishop Bish-op Gerald Belliston. Prayer at the mortuary was given by Ervine F. Smith and prelude and postlude music was played by Rosalie R. Jacklin. Opening prayer was given by Lowell J. Baxter. Speakers were Bishop Harry S. Richards, Principal A. J. Rogers and Bishop Reed O. Walker. Musical numbers were given by Gene Nelson, Warren Kirk and the A Cappella Choir from the high school. The grave was dedicated by Bishop Harvey E. Smith and pallbearers were Fred D. All-redge, All-redge, Ovid Jeppson, Guy Hill-man, Hill-man, Myrl Lindsey, Jesse K. Thorne and Blaine Richards. |
