Show Death Results From Being Struck By Car Coroner's inquest conducted by Judge Irving L. Pratt at the Anderson and Sons mortuary Monday morning brought out the verdict that the death of John W. Tolstoy, 34, was caused by injury when hit by an automobile auto-mobile while riding on the highway, high-way, also that it was an accident caused by a person unknown. Mr. Tolstoy died Friday, Octo ber 5, of a basal skull fracture received Thursday evening when he was struck by an automobile on the old Pleasant Grove road just east of the junction with the highway. Evidence introduced' showed that Mr. Tolstoy was able to walk away from the scene of the acci-I acci-I dent but soon after lost his sense of direction and solicited aid to get to the State Training School. He lost consciousness before reaching the school and was rushed to the hospital where he died the following morning. Members of the jury were Albert Al-bert Tregaskis, Owen Humphries and Albert Christensen. Arnold C. Roylance, Utah county attor ney, was present at the inquest Deputy Sheriff Walter Dur-rant, Dur-rant, who investigated the accident, acci-dent, had difficulty locating witnesses. wit-nesses. Mr. Tolstoy, a conscientious objector, had been working at the training school since Dec. 23, 1943. His wife, Lorissa Tolstoy had been employed at the library of the University of Utah. Funeral services were conducted conduct-ed in the mortuary Saturday afternoon af-ternoon by a priest of the Russian Rus-sian Orthadox church from Salt Lake City. Mr. and Mrs. William Tolstoy, parents of the deceased, and other relatives from Los Angeles were present. Further services were to be conducted in Los Angeles Tuesday Tues-day where burial would take place. |
