Show FUNERAL HLLD TUESDAY, FOR A. R. WINTERS Touching and Impressive funeral services were conducted Tuesday afternoon 'for Arthur Ray Winters, former city marshall of Pleasant Grove. The services held in the First Ward chapel began nt one o'clock, with Ertnian Christensen of the First. Ward Bsihopric in charge. Mrs J. E. Hardman and Mrs. Lo-land Lo-land Beers accompanied1 by Irwin Jensen sang the opening number. "In The Garden" and Ben F. Adams offered the invocation. Speakers were J. A. West, David Gourloy and Joseph Olpin. Mr. West, who was Mayor of PI. Grove, while Mr. Winters was city marshal, spoke highly of the former for-mer peace-officers devotion to di?y and of the dignity with which he upheld the lawl Mr. Gourley, a close friend and neighbor spoke touchingly of Mr. and Mrs. Winters love and care of their familly. and gave some fine thoughts on motherhood Mr. Olpin devoted most of his talk to kindly words of sympathy and encouragement to the children, and to their mother. Musical numbers interspersing the speakers were a cello solo, "A Dream" played by Winona M. Kirk and accompanied by Kathryn Kirk Woolf; A vocal duet, "O My Father" Fath-er" by Mrs. Hardman and Mrs. Beers, accompanied by Mr. Jensen, and the closing number a vocal duet "Jesus Lover o'f My Soul" by Miss Mr. and Mrs. Carilie Knight and two children of Woodland spent Strawberry Day with Mrs. Knight's parents Mr. and Mrs. Basil Walker. Estella Fenton and Mrs. D. W. Straw, acocmpanied by Mr. Jensen, who also played prelude and portlude port-lude music. Closing remarks were made by Ertman Christensen. Benediction was pronounced by R. D. Wadley. Interment took place in the PI. Grove City cemetery 'where El wood Winters offered the dedicatory prayer. Pallbears were Blaine Winters, ETwood Winters, Guy Sundberg, J. E. Hardman, John L. Adams and Ben F. Adams Mr. Winters died at his home last Saturday afternoon after two months Illness. He was a brother of Mrs. Augusta Winters Grant, widow of the late Pres. Heber J. Grant of the LDS church. ' He was born May 16, 1871 at Pleasant Grove, a son of Oscar and Mary Stearns Winters. He lived in Pleasant Grove all of his life. He was a carpenter by trade, then he farmed for a period and finally ipent 17 yeas as Pleasant Grove city marshal. He married Elizabeth Wadley, April 13, 1892, iri the Manti LDS Temple. They had 11 children, six If whom survive. sur-vive. She died June 3, 1915. He married Norma Sundberg, August 31, 1924 in the Salt Lake LDS temple. They had 10 children, eight of whom aire living. 1 Besides his widow, he is survived by 14 children, Mrs. Titha Olsen, Arthur Winters Jr., Susan, Alden, Bonnie, Mary, Gaylon and Norma Winters, Pleasant Grove, Norman R. Winters, U. S. Army; Mrs. Florence Harker, Shelly, Idaho; Mrs. Helen Peterson, Springville; Shirley W. Winters, San Francisco; and Mrs. Helen Collier, Salt Lake City; one sister, Mrs. Augusta Winters Grant, Salt Lake City one brother O. L. Winters, Garland, and 22 grand children. |
