Show Funeral Rites for Jack Newman Held Wednesday Morning Funeral services for Jack F. Newman, 57, who was killed in a truck-camper rollover accident ac-cident on Mt. Timpanogos last Saturday evening, were held Wednesday, Sept. 1 at 11 a.m. in the Third-Sixth Ward Chapel under the direction of Norman E. Wright, counselor in the Sixth Ward bishopric. Mr. Newman apparently was killed instantly last Saturday night, when the truck-camper unit rolled over on a road on Mt. Timpanogos. Charles E. Bryan, 45, Salt Lake City, who was also in the accident, was listed in satisfactory condition in a Salt Lake Hospital, where he was treated for head injuries. injur-ies. Ron Christensen, 13, stepson step-son of Mr. Bryan, and a friend Marvin Ackman, both of Salt Lake City, were in the camper and were thrown free when the accident occurred. The two boys hiked some 7 miles from the scene of the accident Saturday night to report re-port it to the authorities. The Utah County Sheriff's Patrol removed re-moved the injured man and the body of Mr. Newman early Sunday morning. Speakers at the funeral on Wednesday were Lee A. Brown and Eugene Bezzant, and a life sketch was given by Grant D. Newman. Remarks were also given by Mr. Wright. A vocal quartet, Robert Hilton, Hil-ton, Don Allen, Hal Allen and Eldon Harding sang two numbers. num-bers. They were accompanied by Nadine Gillman. Family prayer was spoken by Lloyd Hansen, Invocation and benediction were given by Jay C. Rose and Jack S. Pace, and the grave was dedicated by Bishop Glade C. Hilton, in the Pleasant Grove City Cemetery. Cem-etery. Prelude and postlude music was played by Sharon Ellington. Elling-ton. Pallbearers were Jay, Fred, Darrell, Rex, Raymond, Paul Don and Reed Newman, and honorary pallbearers were Richard and Maurice Emerson. Mr. Newman was born May 2, 1914 in Pleasant Grove, a son of John H. and Elva Blood Newman. He married Ida Ruth Frederick on Jan. 29, 1937 in Pleasant Grove. She died Jan. 24, 1969. He married Anne Emerson Em-erson on Dec. 5, 1969 in Charleston. Char-leston. Mr. Newman attended Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove schools and had lived liv-ed here throughout his lifetime He was a carpenter by trade, and was a member of the LDS Church. Surviving are his widow, and eight sons and two daughters, Jay, Tucson, Ariz.; Fred, Darrell, Dar-rell, Rex, Paul, Don, Stephen, and Marcia, all of Pleasant Grove; Raymond and Mrs. Lloyd (Ida Beth) Hansen, of American Fork; 13 grandchildren, grandchild-ren, his mother of Pleasant Grove; one brother and two sisters, Reed and Mae Newman New-man and Mrs. Lyman (Dorothy) (Dor-othy) Terry, all of Pleasant Grove; four stepsons and one step-daughter. |
