Show PROUNDTHEtf i jbT0WNnl3 by 8 Davts Evans Rite Rosalind Dear Rosalind, I have a seven year old wno is going to be confined to his bed for sometime. Can you suggest some ways to keep him busy and entertained? A Busy Mother Dear Mother, One thing that is entertaining as well as educational for a child that is confined to his bed is cutting felt squares. You can purchase felt squares at any of the stores that sell fabrics. Numbers can be cut and arranged in sequence. Letters can be cut and words formed. Dolls and doll clothes can be cut out. The clothes will stick to the felt doll. A zoo or farm animals can be made. A little glue will allow the patient to trim his animals or dolls with different colors of felt. Hope the patient is soon up and around. Rosalind Dear Rosalind, In answer to the inquiry concerning the taste of fabric softener in the fabric softener bottle, it takes time for the taste to fade out. Put a little lemon juice and water in the bottles and let them stand over night. Then wash them in war m sudsy water in the morning. Do this for several days and the taste will fade out. A Reader Dear Rosalind, Im fourteen, I have a sister two years older than me. She always gets togo places and do fun things. She gets pretty clothes. For years my mother has said, when you get the age of your sister you will get to do these things," but I never do. All I get is her hand me downs. Do you think this is right or fair? Joyce Dear Joyce, No, I dont think that it is right or fair. My heart goes out to you and I truly feel sorry for you because of the things youre Heres a little fable for you missing. Joyce. A group of desert turtles were traveling together. As they came to tiny puddles where the rain and dew had been caught they quenched their thirst, except one who thought he saw in the distance a large lake. He hurried toward the lake and refused to bother with the little puddles. But the further he travled the further away the lake seemed to get. While his companions were happy and free from thirst, he was still seeking and thirsting and longing for a mirage. Love Rosalind RITE ROSALIND Publishing Company P.O. Its the age of Teacher Aids" ... the inner com, the film projector, the slide projector, the tape recorder, the overhead projector, the opaque projector, the ditto machine, the mimeograph mechine, the thermofax, the TV the etc., the etc., the etc. I sometimes wonder if these contraptions make us better teachers or do we leave too much of the work to the machine and that all important teacher personality is lost in the scramble, and that all important person, the student, fails to do much thinking for himself. He seemed to contemplate his problems through heavy thinking and he taught his pupils to think their way through their difficulties. On one occasion, he was discovered standing on a street in Athens, lost in thought. People gathered around, wanting to figure out how long he could contemplate. The story goes that he stood there all day long and as night came on, people brought out their beds on which to rest their weary bones while old Soc stood upright and continued to think. When day break came, he smiled into the beautiful dawn and quietly went on his way. Socrates taught the following truths: Know thyself," Widsom is virtue," Wise men are moderate in all things for only so can he enjoy the keen delight of the mind. Socrates was condemed to death for the corrupting of the minds of the youth and quietly as he had lived, he died after drinking the poisen hemlock. Such was the end, said Plato, a great student of Socrates, of our friend, whom I may truly call the wisest, justest and best of all the men I have ever known. Christ, the greatest of all teachers did a great deal of thinking all by himself; on one occasion he retired into the boon docks for 40 days and nights and what else was there to do but heavy thinking. Moses also took a few days off from those eratic children of Israel as you recall. years. its been hurt while those Paris peace talks have gone on and on and on... I wonder if those Paris fellers are doing any thinking along with their talking. Most of us get disgrutneled when a church speaker holds us for over 30 minutes, Eh Gads! Wouldnt it be a chore to listen to speeches month after month and the way it looks theyll be going on year after year. Someone wrote a few years ago that he thought that the politicians of 100 years ago did better work than those of today because it took them so long to get from their homes to the capitols of their states and nation and they were able to think their problems out. Today a politician gets on an airplane and reaches his destination in a few hours and while hes traveling, hes being entertained by a movie such as Erma La which leaves him in no condition for Duce, any heavy thinking after he gets to his capitol. You know, I believe it. I believe if a feller gets himself out away from anything modern, and tries to think through what needs doing, he will come out farther ahead than if he hangs around civilization with a stereo playing in one room, a TV going in another, someone honking a car horn out in front of the house, a dog barking just because he likes the confusion.
