The View From Here By Ruth Roth mrmnnmnmnrmrjnrinfsnrmi Theres a little three letter word that is used to describe a variety of things. That little old word is spelled flu, but have you ever noticed the many different ways it is used to describe such a variety of symptoms? If you start to ache all over someone immediately will tell you that you are coming down with the flu. You may or may not disagree with them depending whether you have been exercising too strenuously or whether you have been in contact with someone who was ill. If your nose starts to drip and your eyes swell up you may have been around some weeds or flowers or such that started you off on a hay fever binge, but a friend or relative or someone will surely claim its the flu. Some folks claim that its the start of flu whenever a person starts with a headache. It may in reality be just a plain headache, it might end up a migrane, it might be the beginning of a cold, or as serious as a brain tumor, but someone is sure to nail the old flu title on it. Upset stomachs may herald the early stages of childhood diseases, over indulgence in some food, a bout with your ulcer or a variety of things, but many people just blame it on that old flu bug and let it go at that. Sore throats may herald the start of mumps, swollen glands, tonsilitis, strep throat, or any number of other illnesses, but most of them are blamed on the flu Golf instructions Instructions in beginning golf are available at the golf course for boys and girls 8 to 18 years of age. For a to evaluate the scientific and technical questions is difficult, if not impossible. However, I believe based on information available to me that the missile will work. At a time when serious disarmament negotiations are to begin, I dont think the Congress should repudiate the President on an item which he says is needed in his conduct of foreign affairs and in protecting the Country. I realize there are unmet domestic needs at home. President Nixon has gone far to meet this criticism by restricting the ABM system to our missile sites. To scrap completely the ABM program however would be flirting dangerously with Americas security. Consequently, I will support the President in his decision. Thank you again for writing. However, after much thought and consideration I have decided that I will support the President, basically because I think it would be a mistake to ignore a defensive weapon system at a time when the Soviet Union already has an ABM system in place. They have apparently tested theirs and know it will work. One cannot dismiss the fact that for the past five years the Soviet Government has successfully been attempting to catch and eventually pass tne United States in the field of nuclear If that occurs, and the ABM weapons. system is not deployed, then it would be too late for the United States to do anything if the Soviet Union decided to take the initiative diplomatically or miliCzechoslavakia is tragic proof tarily. that the Soviet leadership is very willing and able to take the offensive when it feels circumstances require or will allow it. I am not willing to accept the risk of American inaction. I feel the President needs theSafeguajrd AMB in order to bargain effectively with the Soviet Union on arms control. To reject ABM now would be to undercut very seriously his handbyrequdiatinghim on a point which he considers vital to his and treated with the same old remedies. If your tired and pooped out all the time it could be because of low blood, or Spring Fever, or heart trouble, or laziness, or thyroid trouble but usually you blame it on the fact that you had the flu last month, or last week or last year. I sometimes think that flu bugs must have inferiority complexes because they get blamed for so many things they couldnt possibly be the cause of. I hope that you will excuse this short column and overlook all of the spelling errors and such things. Ive had a sore throat, cold on my chest, aches in my joints, a fever and chills, upset stomach and bloodshot puffed up eyes. Theres just no doubt about it Im sure I must have the FLU!!!
