Although held back by cold weather, jobs made available through Utah employment security offices totaled 630 during the week of March 27, a slight decrease from the week call-bac- call-bacbefore. However, held up well and at 1,632 were the major cause for the drop in the unemployed ratio from 5.46 percent for the week of March 20 to 5.05 percent for the current week. Mr. Thurston said the seasonally adjusted ration at 3.6 percent was unchanged from the week before but is a point below the same week last year. New unemployment is relatively low in Utah County but is still high in most of the state totaling 872 layoffs for the week. Mr. Thurston said this was a slight decrease from the week of March 20, but is considerably below last years 1,039 for the same week. Need for early spring farm labor was light reported Mr. Thurston and is lagging behind a year ago throughout most sections of Utah due to colder than average weather during most of March.
