Show athenaeum i AM M 4 the womans comans athenaeum held annual day at the home 0 of the president mrs A M kopp at monday afternoon after the reading of the minutes of 0 previous meeting the reports of secretary treasurer historian and auditor were read deac and accepted after twenty two years service our work has been difficult owning to the influenza in our city yet we are proud to state our years work has been accomplished in twenty tour four meetings all A 11 papers and literary programs have been carried out our pre president Adent has served faithfully and has been untiring in her efforts to carry out the work mork and to extend its cause into the community in presenting the gavel and books to the president elect mrs H finch the president in well chosen words thanked the retiring officers tor for their able support during the year mrs finch distributed the year books and presented mrs kopp with a beautiful potted plant as a token of 0 appreciation from the club this completed the years work A short program was given by mrs G A larsen and mrs E W robinson reading the beautiful poem by T B weaver after roll call and singing of america the members retired to the dining room where a dainty luncheon was served the table was arranged very prettily with centerpiece of white lace over red with blue vase vasa filled with white carnations carrying out the clua club colors 0 of cherry cherri and white THE ALIENS when old glory was flung to the western breeze and our warships were headed across theseas the seas and the call to the colors from coast to coast assembled americas untrained host boat there ther were mothers kisses and sweet hearts tears there were latners wishes and friends 1 4 warm cheers j for thousands ot of soldiers but not for all i who then volunteered and answered the call I for many were aliens in this glorious ausland land who golnot got not a kiss not ft a tear not a hand not even the thought that some someone would cherish their deeds it if for love of the flag they should perish T they h ey hive have gone they have fo fought u they have triumphed and biedl the flag that we love they have glorified while some of 0 these heroes sleep under the snow and some are at rest where the red poppies poppie blow in nob odys window hang bang beautiful stars to cherish their valor their triumphs their scars on nob dyB odys flag will be set stars of 0 gold to tester foster their stories of service untold but somewhere and sometime amer leas heart will share them its lote IOTO and will anthem the part which the allen alien so freely and nobly has done don for the sake of old glory and ad tab tj victories won god grant when these theae heroes return in the ranks they may all be our boys get gelt a share of our thanks i and when freedom her heroes ot of peace has enrolled we nay may find all their ful stars itan shining gold T B weaver |
