"The fifth hole almost killed me and I certainly cut a sweat on No. 7, but once I got to the back nine I coasted," Pillvent said. Pillvent completed the course in just under eight hours at 7:58.44 and fired a 117. His nearest competitor, Spike Neverlean Men's Association president-finished at 8:07.33 and shot 123. The competition is based on the popular Ride 'n' Tie and Bike & Tie events, only in this case there is only one contestant. contes-tant. The contestant tees off and then must pull the electric cart to the spot of his next shot. ."No. 5 was tough especially since I lost my emergency brake after I forgot to make the tie and had to chase the $) ! ! cart at east 120 yards," Neverlean said- "I must have sweat off about 20 pounds. "It was really hard since I never carry my clubs, never mind pulling that 4 cart around." That hole could have cost Neverlean the championship because he lost a good 25 minutes and at least two strokes. He heard the cart rolling roll-ing in the middle of his backsw-ing backsw-ing and took a quick peek back, which caused him to shank one out of bounds. The penalty system used in the competition was the same as the Pro Golfer's Association penalties with a little twist added. ad-ded. If a golfer received a one-stroke one-stroke penalty he had to carry a member of the Park City Womens Golf Association in his cart to the next hole. On a two-stroke two-stroke penalty he had to carry her for two holes. The penalty was further increased when she was allowed to chatter in the middle of his every backswing, give advice on how to play every shot and was permitted to cast her shadow in his putting line. There were 36 entries that began the competition and only five finished. Six were lost on the first tee, falling victim to the shotgun start. And 20 contestants con-testants had to drop out for various medical reasons, ranging rang-ing from hernias to pulled foscks Ed Acridity was eliminated when he wrapped every club he had around a birch tree on No. 15 after being assessed his second, consecutive double penalty. Four golfers disqualified have not been seen since their dynamited-carts were found near the pond on No. 9. Finishing third was Burp Childman, who insisted that his winning the tournament was a "lock" before it began, in 9:44.13. Seal CrumbBumbo, who wasted three hours on a dinner date at the Mt. Air Cafe, was fourth finishing in 13:35.40. Dill Bickson, who broke his right leg on the second hole and then remained in the contest after his cart received two flat tires after the third hole, received receiv-ed the "Macho Award" to go along with his fifth-place finish. "I'd rather be skiing," Bickson said as he crossed the finish line. Pillvent received a season's pass to the Park City Golf Course for his top finish and Neverlean got two free visits to Sneezers Chiropractic. Childman and CrumbBumo received a case of Ripple Pagan Pink wine. Bickson got a week's supply of Ben Gay for his fifth-place fifth-place finish and a weekend for two in beautiful Murray, Utah for winning the Macho Award. "If we don't put the advertisements on we will lose valuable dollars to other schools." said Stonie Nutshell, school superintendent. Nutshell denied a rumor that McDonald's restaurants are trying try-ing to buy the exclusive rights of the teams and chance the loco of the school from the Miners to the McMmers. "I don't think we'd !:ke to go as far as to sell the name and have the school become the McDonald's Park City High School." Nutshell said. "I mean, let's t e serious." Gay league's rugged rugby iads to leave San Francisco for P.C. by KURT JUSTKIDMAN Ragged staff writer The San Francisco Department Depart-ment of Human Rights and Good Clean Fun has announced that the newest franchise of the Gav Rugby League will be located in Park Citv. "The Park City team will play-teams play-teams located in Provo. Orem. Aspen, Jackson Hole. Salt Lake City as well as teams located in California," explained Bruce "Biff" Boff, president of the league. "We expect the league to be as successful in the Inter-mountain Inter-mountain area as it is right here in San Francisco. We also hope to get the local team, the Muckers, involved in our league." Most members of the Muckers team have refused comment on the team's possible inclusion in the Gay League. "I think that we'll have to see just how good the league is, and how many illegal tackles are made during a game," one member, who refused to give his name, said. "I know one thing is for sure, I'm not getting into any scrum that smells like musk aftershave lotion." The Gay League was begun in 1976 by the HRGCF committee. League champions every year has been the Palo Alto Poofters, an all-girl team. "We're proud of our accomplishments, ac-complishments, I don't know why we win every year I guess it is because we are more aggressive ag-gressive than most of the men's teams," said Trixie Johnson, captain of the team. "We're looking forward to traveling to Park City and seeing just what kind of team the city can put together." The Muckers' unidentified spokesman said that the team would have to vote on the issue ;1 5 1 r Park City rugby players model from the Bay Area. of playing a girls team. "Rugby should be played by men, I think," he said. "But then again I'm not sure." League play will begin in June and continue throughout the summer. Those interested in joining the Park City team should contact the HRGCF. "Right now we are planning just one team in Park City, but if the response is great we'll consider con-sider fielding two teams," Boff the latest in sporty fashion said. "Eventually we'd like to field a woman's team also, so 1 encourage the women to contact us also. In the future we want to create a women's league, and have the women's champion play the men's league champion in the Gay Super Bowl of Rugby. I get so excited just thinking about it." Boff hopes everybody can get excited and get behind the Park City team.
