The order is now in effect. It includes all state, private, national forest and Bureau of Land Management lands and remains in effect until rescinded. Lands located in incorporated towns and cities are not affected by the restriction. The order adds lands in Box Elder. Cache, Davis. Duchesne, Emery. Grand, Juab, Millard. Morgan. Rich. Salt Lake, Sanpete, Sevier. Summit, Tooele. Uintah. Utah, Wasatch and Weber counties to the list of counties already under a fire restriction. This order now means the entire state is under a Stage I fire restriction order. In Salt Lake County the restriction applies to lands east of Wasatch Boulevard, south of Highland Drive in Draper, west of Utah S R. Ill, and south and west of the tow n of Herriman. "We are especially concerned about fireworks," fire-works," explained State Forester Art DuFauIt. "While we want everyone to enjoy the approaching holidays, fireworks cause an inordinate inordi-nate number of fires statewide." "We're asking everyone to be especially careful care-ful with all forms of fire and to take special pre cautions with the use of fireworks," he added. The fire restriction order prohibits open fires of any kind except campfires in developed camp-; grounds and facilities; smoking, except in vehi- cles, boats, developed recreation sites, residences resi-dences or in an area at least three feet in diameter diame-ter that is cleared of all flammable materials; and fireworks, tracer ammunition or other pyrotechnic pyrotech-nic devices. Buckle up and drive safe this holiday weekend FURNITURE YOU CAN USE ,, f 11 343 - i'- 1 'H hi- i.i ? ; pc AIiJA j , if"5' ' 2555 5. Highland Irive Salt lake ZlXj Utah '801.474.1240 W ith the increase in travel for the extended Fourth of July weekend, the Utah Safety-Council Safety-Council is reminding motorists that buckling up can s.inc lives. The Utah Safety Council estimates that nationwide 645 peopie will die on the highways and five L'tahns could lose their lives on Utah roads during the Independence holiday. If every person riding in a motor vehicle buckled up over the holiday weekend, an additional 173 lives nationwide, including three Utahns, could be saved. "We have made great strides in the effort to get motorists to buckle up." said Robert Parenti. president of the Utah Safety Council. "Safety belts are proven lifesavers. yet only 70 percent of drivers and passengers wear them." With the threat of motorists traveling at high speeds, impaired or careless driving and not using safety belts, everyone is jeopardized regardless of how careful or skilled a driver they may be. To help keep motorists safe during dur-ing this holiday weekend, the Utah Safety Council offers these driving tips: Watch your speedometer. The majority of fatai crashes are speed related. There is greater risk of being involved and seriously injured in a motor vehicle crash when driving at higher speeds. Speed limits exist for your safety. Buckle up to save lives. Using your safety belt is the single most effective way you can reduce the chances of serious injury or death in a car crash. Wearing a safety belt can increase your chance of surviving by as much as 50 percent. Whenever you travel in a car. do not leave the driveway without making sure that each passenger is properly secured in a safety belt or child safety seat. Six out of ten children killed in crashes are not restrained. Children age 12 and under should always ride in the back seat, especially in vehicles with air bags. Drinking and driving don't mix. Never drink and drive. Take a vacation on the road. When taking longer trips, allow enough travel time so that you can take frequent breaks. Make frequent stops for light snacks and exercise. If you're too tired to drive, stop and rest. This year's Fourth of July Holiday weekend officially began at 6 p.m., Friday, June 30. and will end at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, July 4.
