Show J G go bywater By vater called the many friends of J 0 bywater were grieved yesterday morning to hear of hla his passing for scores of years mr bywater was engineer on the local branch of the denver and rio grande and was known and admired by practically every partite before he retired from railroading and every old time hlll regret to hear of life his passing on thursdays salt lake tribune gives the following account of the death and pro finance of this well known utahn joseph 0 bywater veteran utah railroad man mail and a thirty third degree mason died wednesday morning at hla his home east herbert avenue apoplexy was the cause of death mr bywater was born in salt lake october 21 1867 1857 the son of george 0 and martha J bywater utah pioneers ho he began his 56 year railroad career at the age ot of 14 when he be became an apprentice machinist in the utah central matiro railroad a d shops later he worked as journeyman 1 machinist and general foreman tor for the utah northern railroad he remained with this line until it was incorporated corp orated with the union pacific system in whose employ he remained for two years later he be was associated with the salt lake street car company and the new utah central railroad tor for which he ser eer ved as master mec mechanic hartle and I 1 dent of bridge construction lie ha worked tor for tile the 1 D R G W railroad up tip until nearly dearly the time of his death 1 for the last twenty five years he hadi had been active lit in the brotherhood of wasi locomotive corno co tive engineers at one time lie he was vice president ot of the insurance ass association of the brotherhood he was elected grand chaplain by the international brotherhood convention in july 1026 1926 in cleveland ile he originated the present preben brotherhood pension system he was active in politics and served two terms in the state legislature and was also EL a trustee of the salt bait lake city board ot of education mr bywater served ns as master of mount and acacia masonic lodges he was a member ot of utah consistory chapter no 1 I R A M el kalah temple of the mystic shrine and utah council royal and select masters he received the distInct distinction lon ot of the thirty degree in n masonry on his 8 itty eighth birthday in 1925 he Is survived by his widow Sophron sophronia la A bywater one sister mrs martha hillstead ot of salt lake find and the following sons and daughters mrs J M jorgensen jorgan mrs E R thorup of salt lake mrs W A black ot of chicago dr M dr M bywater george 0 bywater and lynn 0 bywater all of salt lake and awen ty six grandchildren and one great grandchild the funeral will be held sunday at p in from the masonic temple the body may be viewed from noon until the time of the services |
