MERLIN MYSTIFIES MAGIC FANS The Merlin Mystery Show materialized in the Park City High School Auditorium on Tuesday, April 30th. The first half of the performance was an exhibition of mind reading but the highlight of the night occurred after intermission. Aided by large contingent of willing volunteers, Merlin produced some hilarious antics by means of hypnotism. At various stages of the show, the entranced students had ants in their pants, heat on their seats, glue on their shoes, and many other hypnotically suggested malfunctions. Merlin, in actuality, is Mr. Donn Wood. Mr. Wood began the study of hypnotism in the early 40s and took to the road with his act in 1949. His first performance in Utah was in 1950 and he returns approximately every three years. During the course of his nine months of travel each year, Merlin performs nearly 200 shows. Mr. Wood noted that theatrical hypnotists do not abound today as they did at the turn of the century and that most of the old timers are gone. |
