Show Wednesday, April 17, 1974 THE PARK CITY rjQ n n OnOQRO uUdQuD A CITY IN HOW TO GO BROKE IN BUSINESS IN PARK FIVE EASY LESSONS: There have been several letters to the editor published in the Coalition concerning jobs for local residents during the summer construction season. The Coalition shares their concern, and would like to further emphasize the fact that Park City people face an almost impossible task of going to work on any of the major construction jobs in town. We would like to know why hundreds of works are imported from Salt Lake City to perform skilled and unskilled jobs which could be handled by Park City people eager to go to work? We are told that if Park City workers took the initiative to go to Salt Lake City and join one of the various trade unions, they can get a job if an opening occurs in Park City. We appreciate what the unions have done for wage equality, but this hiring practice is absurd when we have such a large labor pool already available in Park City. In fact, if jobs were more available, Park City would have less transient turn-ovin its population, thus a more stable seasonal economy. Under the circumstances, it appears that the unions and the construction companies are snoozing and self serving, apparently unconcerned with community relationships. If it werent for the Resort and a few firms such as Research Homes, who are willing and eager to hire locals, the summer Park City job market would be indeed even bleaker. Perhaps the only answer is an organized movement with picketing and other measures to end this labor discrimination. The Coalition invites all interested parties to submit their ideas, and we challenge the unions and construction companies for explanations and solutions. er n rrJfJfJrJtJrJrrJfjrJrJrJfJSrfSJrr.fr SUBSCRIPTION FORM E THE a PARK CITY 1 il NAME a 0 ADDRESS a a Mail Subscription Form to: PARK CITY COALITION P.O.BOX 828 PARK CITY, UTAH 84060 a I irlrJrJrJrJrJrJf Ij3rjfjrJriiiiJrJiiFJfir3i The Coalition will be mailed every Wednesday ! lav-bac- THE MAJORITY OF ONE if things run true Well, come the first of next week to form Park City is gonna take its spring siesta. Its gonna be so quiet on Main Street that the most excitin tiling to do for entertainment will be countin the number of dogs asleep in the middle of it. Thats the Park City equivalent of watchin the pigs eat, for those of you who dont know. Now the only thing that worries me some is that I been hearin about a sneaky plot gettin underway. I hear that while the town is asleep, a group of investors is gonna buy up all the property on Main Street, close it off at the north end, set up a little booth, and charge admission to see the Historic Ruins of Old Park City. Its a hell of an idea. Makes it simple for the city officials, too. They only have to charge their business tax on one feller. No From what I hear, the way things are turning out down at the north end of Park Avenue, there really won t be any need for a city. Theres be a new gonna town called North Park. I guess if people cared bout hangin on up there on Main, theyd do something about this conspiracy, but theyll all be in Mexico, loungin around in the sun. Just bein an observer, you know, I do feel a little sorry for Old Park City. But I guess that apathy is one disease theres no cure for. This water is to be mixed with the Theriot Spring water to provide a total of five second feet or approximately 2300 gallons per minute. A reservoir and pump station are already designed and accepted by the State Health Department for this project.
