Show THE Wednesday, March 13, 1974 PARK CITY LETTERS TO THE EDITOR KDITOIt-NOTH: The Coalition thank Kill Orria for the $15. lie is right wr. can use it! I have just received a copy of your Number One issue and would like to congratulate you -its great! Park City needs a newspaper that is not a gossip sheet, and which reports the news without bias, badly: a paper which will approach controversial issues and work diligently to evolve the facts of any particular issue or problem. This, of course, is sometimes a long, painful, and head-o- n seemingly other in their ettorts to create it, or when once created, it acts as a back-dro- p for human ugliness. This is not to say I find any fault in the people of Park City, or those who are developing the area. I have been intimately associated with many people there and have found the vast majority of them to be honest, fair, peaceful and tolerant. Furthermore, one cannot practice medicine in a community for four years without putting down some fairly deep roots, and, for better COALITION Page or worse, those roots cannot be pulled out easily. Therefore, and with some regret, I must assume the blame for my share of what has come to be some of the ugliness of Park City. When I came to Park City in 1964 I was overly enthusiastic. I saw Park City as opening up the greatest skiing area in the world and visualized a great new hospital for the town as part of its development toward what must be its ultimate destiny. The one essential aspect of the program was that people work together. Unfortunately I couldnt pull it off. It is to my discredit that I lacked the diplomacy, tact, consideration, thoughtfulness, and ability to accomplish my aims. Personally, I am not as concerned with what Park City has been or is. What turns me on is what Park City can be, both as a community of individuals, and as a physical facility for recreation and living. I do not want to enter into the pros and cons of keeping the Miners a as Hospital I historical monument. would hope that this problem be solved in a manner which will be to the best interests of the citizens of Park City, The State Historical Society, the GPCDC, and myself, with die' regard to fairness and what is best for the future of the city. Well, anyway, I want you to know how much I appreciate your calling me in your attempt to get at the facts. I enjoyed talking with you. Whatever happens to the hospital, I can only hope that it does not result in any big battles or make a bunch of enemies. As a skier I can truthfully say these are things that dont do much for me. Sincerely, unrewarding procedure, requiring a great deal of courage and fortitude. 1 sincerely wish for your paper a long and constructive life. At the risk of being corny, I have to say it tickles me that you should give birth, so to speak, by featuring the Miners Hospital. You called me for an answer to a few questions. You were a captive audience and I took advantage of you by regaling vou with lengthy anecdotes that had little to do with the present crisis. I appreciate the fact that a newspaper just starting out can hardly afford the luxury of long distance phone calls necessarily prolonged by unin- considerate people. Please cept my check for $15.00 to at least help to defray the cost of the call. Your article on the Miners Hospital is great and I appreciate the fact you had to tackle the immediately. problem head-o- n (Incidentally, I dont have a copy of the picture you used and would really appreciate your telling me where I might obtain one.) There is one little correction I would like to make. Mrs. Nelson did not give the acre of ground to the city and the Miners Union. She permitted the use of this ground as a site for the hospital in 1904. A few years later the Hospital Corporation purchased the property from her for what, at that time, was a reasonable price. Personally, I would like to see Park City a community of peaceful, happy people, working together harmoniously to develop what must ultimately become the greatest skiing area in the world. These attributes would be far more rewarding and desirable, ac- Contrary to popular belief, not all banks deserve the reputation of being impersonal, and just another bank.99 Were here in Park City to be YOUR bank, and help you get the most out of banking. Youd be surprised how much more human we are than just a building to dart in and out of when you need money. Believe it or not, we even want to help you MAKE money. And we can do that because we are the only bank in the county that gives you: both to inhabitants and skiers, than all the beauty, historical sites, city planning, and architectural efforts money could possibly buy. Harmony and peace can make up for a tremendous amount of ugliness and lack of historical sites, but all the beauty in the world is of little value if it sets men against each To explain daily interest briefly, let us say you can put your money in a savings account with us, withdraw it one month later, and make money on it.
