What is lacking in space is compensated for by a continuing effort to improve the aualitv. Under the supervision of librarian Mrs. Carol Mawhinney, the Media Center, as it is called, has made for several noteworthy im- provements in the last year. The selection of books is based on award winning childrens bodes. This year the emphasis has been placed on acquiring reference books for research to Norman Miller, head coach of the Park City High Basketball his Team, has tendered to be the effective at resignation end of the current school year. Coach Miller cited a desire to pursue other educational and as opportunities reason for his departure. He also stated that, The expectations coaching and priorities of the community and its student athletes- do not coincide with my coaching philosophy. The athletic ment of Park City High School needs a fresh approach. Mr. Miller came to P.C.H.S. in 1971 after coaching and instructing at Woodmont II.S. in Greenville, S.C., for one year. A - compliment the students social studies activities. The term Media Center reflects the goal to include all forms of educational material. There are two racks of film strips on varied subjects available to the students. During the noon hour, the students have access to a television and an improved magazine section. Among the new materials purchased by the Media Center is a relief globe of the moon. A unique feature is the wide assortment of games for the children. Due to the inclement weather problem during the winter and the lack of indoor facilities, this selection of games provides a valuable means of recreation. Though somewhat delayed by the fact that some of the contestants were still competing in the final events. the awards presentations got underway about 8:30 PM. Tom LeRoy, die first man to complete a triple somersault, MCd while Carl Wallick and Jim Woolner, principals of Beconta, Inc. (sponsor of the competition) looked on and gave congratulations to each winner. The money winners in the SLC Departure Schedule $35,000 competition wrere as follows: Ballet: First, - Dan. Pierce ($2,500) ; Second - Terry Caldwell ($1,500); Third - Kevin Monahan ($1,000). Aerials: First Roger Evans - ($2,500); Second - Bob Solamo Third ($11,500); Steigemeier ($1,000). Freestyle: First - Mark - - Mike King Bob Solamo ($2,500); Second ($1,500); Third - Jack Taylor ($1,000). Combined: First - Bob Solamo ($4,000) ; Second - John Clendenin Third Mark ($3,000); Steigemeier ($2,000 ). graduate of B.Y.U. whose major was Physical Education, he last year coached the Miners to one of only two winning seasons in the past twenty years. The Coalition is sorry to see Norm Miller leave. lie was a successful basketball coach in all areas. We wish him the best of luck m whatever he does.
