Merrell, Coordinator of School Plant Planning for the State of Utah, has for given a "firm building. go-ah- ead Dr. Apprehension Goodworth had ex- pressed considerable apprehension last week over the status of the $1,100,000 in state critical building aid which is essential to the realization of a new school facility. The Utah State Board of Education voted to endorse reorganization of Summit County schools and this, in turn, prompted Walter D. Talbot, State Superintendent of Schools, to call for a moratorium on any local school construction. South Summits pledge of financial aid, coupled with Mr. Russells decision, would seem to erase almost all the stumbling blocks which lie in the new high schools path. Index Still to be announced is the critical building fund index which is expected to be forthcoming this week. The index is a listing of the school districts which have been designated as having top priority in the allotment of the $2 million available in critical funds. Though unofficial, it is generally conceded that Park City will be awarded the number one priority and that the North Summit School District will be number two. North Summit is requesting $800,000 in aid, so even if the positions were reversed, Park City would still be able to receive the $1,100,000 it needs. Preliminary Plans Mr. Russell has instructed Dr. Goodworth that preliminary drawings for the school should be submitted as early feasible. in December as After conferring with Park City's high school teachers as to their specific needs, Dr. Goodworth on Tuesday, November 26th, supplied the architectural firm of Edwards and Daniels with the major input concerning desired features. Edwards and Daniels is expected to present the rough plans to Mr. Merrell by December 2nd. Resolution The Park City and South Summit school boards met in closed session on Tuesday, November 19th, to draw up a formal agreement for the joint school building venture. The week previous to this meeting, the South Summit board members had concurred in concept and scope to the provision of financial assistance. The resolution, which has not yet been signed and, hence, has not been officially adopted, states that South Summit will provide $356,316 to help defer the cost of constructing a new school for Park City. The resolution social desirability cites the economic of having cer and tain students of the South Summit School District, who reside in the near proximity of Park City School District to attend the Park City schools. It also emphasizes that Park City's application for critical building aid appears to be dependent upon a joint building venture." Summit will seek approval and initiate a bond issue to provide the assistance agreed upon.
