Figures gathered by OCAG Chairman Anne Prince indicate that the South Summit School District will receive $57,301 for educations they will not supply this school year. Revenues Versus Expenses The South Summit School District currently collects school tax dollars from the and Canyon Thaynes Holiday Ranch areas which have been annexed to Park City and from the Hidden Cove, Silver Creek, Highland Estates, Bitner, Gardner, Bertagnole, Gilmer, and Ar- mstrong properties. The children from these areas attend Park City schools due to close proximity although they reside within the South Summit district. The real estate and building valuations assessed for Thaynes Canyon and Holiday Ranch total $661,425. The real estate and building valuations for the other areas total $1,317,311 for a combined sum of $1,978,736. When utility and personal property valuations are included, the total assessed value of the areas cranes to $2,002340. Multiplying this $2,002340 figure by the 40 mill levy imposed fay the South Summit School District results in a $80,113 60 figure which theoretically will accrue to South Summit for the education of children residing in the affected areas. has Summit South calculated that its expenses pertaining to these students will be $22303 for the 1974-7- 5 school year and that the revenues will be $26332. Comparison of these figures shows South Summit has projected excess revenues of $3,829 whereas the CCAG figues indicate a surplus? students from the areas conThe vast difference bet- cerned attend Park City ween the two accounting schools; 35 at Marsac and 25 results was the basis of the atP.C.H.S. controversy which erupted at Using the 61 student figure, the October 8th meeting of the A.D.A. money should the CCAG. We will probably have to subsidize the South Summit School District to some extent, the CCAG Chairman said, but she cited the need for an accurate account of the situation to evaluate the financial districts. As grow position of both Park City continues to and its tax base in- creases, its wealth relative to the surrounding areas will be the rationale for future sub-- si da tion of South Summit schools. Cooperation Mrs. Prince related that the superintendents of the two school districts have the in revenue extensive concerning distribution problem and that South Summit seems to be more than agreeable to an equitable solution. Present plans call for the formulation of a financial contract which is acceptable to both districts and which will be flexible enough to accommodate the growth of Park City. From Park Citys viewpoint, the remittance of Thaynes Canyon and Holiday Ranch revenues are mandatory with revenues from the other affected areas open for discussion.
