Pitcher makes most of second chance Landon Olson NORTH COUNTY STAFF It's a bit unusual to see a player rooting against her team from the dugout. Telling the coach to not stop play as time ticks down and encouraging en-couraging her teammates not to be too slow at the plate. But, with under two minutes min-utes left on the game clock, Tajia Law just wanted another chance on the mound. With Timpanogos up 5-0 going into the fourth inning Monday, Law took over on the mound for ALU Bramwell. A walk and error led to a pair of runs before Law struck out two and got one hitter to pop out. But she wasn't happy with that performance. Back on the mound in the fifth, she got the first two batters before be-fore walking the next, but that didn't gain anything for Provo as TWolf catcher Chelsie Laird threw the runner out as she tried to steal, closing the door on a 6-2 victory in the U16 softball league game at Orem's Lakeside Park. Despite picking up only two hits in the game, Timpanogos got on track early, with Whitney Whit-ney Rode reaching on a single then Angie Larsen, Jenn Harris and Tajia Law all walking. 5K Continued from Page 6 Normally she says she doesn't run the shorter races because they're too fast, but tried Orem's for the training and because her brother, who is just getting into ranning, was going to compete. "I thought I might as well try it," Fowler said. The overall winner was another runner with college experience. UVSC's Joe Bendoski beat the next closest competitor by nearly two minutes, finishing with a time of 15:33. Kevin Robison, a former Mountain View cross country and track athlete and the defending defend-ing champion, was second, sec-ond, finishing in 17:19, 42 seconds ahead of the next closest finishers. A total of 176 runners were in the race, with 73 men and 103 women. A raffle and refreshments refresh-ments concluded the event. L. ,, ,.., mJnk - iir,mnlrnrii..il..ilMtrak Z The T'Wolves score three runs on wild pitches in the inning. In the second, a leadoff walk by Tricia Richardson led to another run as she stole second, sec-ond, advanced to third on a fielder's choice then score on a wild pitch. Rode scored again in the third on a wild pitch after af-ter reaching on an error, then Courtney Fairbanks picked up Timpanogos other hit in the fourth, singling and eventually scoring on a wild pitch. The Timpanogos pitchers gave up only one hit, and Bramwell Bram-well struck out seven in three innings of work. The game was the second in doubleheader the T'Wolves split. They're back in action this weekend at a Pleasant Grove tournament. I Pleasant Grove 5, Timpanogos 3: Pleasant Grove just needed a little cushion. Once the Diamondbacks Diamond-backs got that, they were in the position they wanted to be. The PG U16 team scored three runs in the fourth irLning then added a pair in the fifth to hang on for a 5-3 victory against Timpanogos Monday at Orem's Lakeside Park. "Once we're ahead 3-0, 1 figured fig-ured they wouldn't score that many again st our pitcher," said T. I LANDON OLSONNorth County Cynthia Fowler checks her time after crossing the finish line at the Firefighters' 5K. She was the top female finisher in Saturday's event. "THE DEFINITION OF QUALITY & WORKMANSHIP" LANDON OLSONNorth County coach Craig Giles. He was right about that. Down 5-0, Timpanogos got a rally going in the bottom of the fifth, scoring two runs and putting put-ting runners on first and third with one out. Then came the play that swung the momentum right back to Pleasant Grove. On the attempted steal at second, sec-ond, PG catcher Alisa Sampson make the throw down to Leah Stoker, catching the runner. While the runner from third scored, it only made it 5-3 with none on and two outs. Pitcher Heather Christiansen struck out the final batter to earn the win. Through "the first three innings, in-nings, the Diamondbacks were shut down by T'Wolf pitcher Angie Larsen, going in order. But, in the fourth Ashlyn Cottle, Kirsten Logan and Stoker all reached to start the inning, then would all score before Larsen picked up three quick outs. In the fifth, Halle Engleman and Auste Francom both would score to add the insurance runs. The Diamondbacks improved to 2-1 with the win, then played in the nightcap against Provo. P.G. will be back in action this weekend at a tournament in Pleasant Grove. Your generation is changing the rules of what it means to be 65. This calls for a celebration!
